removal
I am in the process of pulling the oilpan on my 91 VR4, but I
cant get teh
pan off of the engine block. Do I need to buy the special
Mitsubishi tool or
is there another way? I was surprised because I had
no trouble removing the
active aero, exhaust, starter and transaxle
assembly, but eh oils pan itself
is stuck on good.
Another question
the splined shaft that goes into the transaxle appears to
have a lot of wear
is this normal? and is this a problem?
Thanks for the help!

Third gear seems to bump my shifter
First, thanks to everyone for helping
out so much with my questions.
I've noticed on my VR4 ('91, 85K miles)
that when I'm cruising in third gear
and I let off the accelerator and coast
with the car still in gear, I feel
this big bump in the shifter. It only
happens once (when I let off the gas).
It doesn't seem like any of the other
gears do this, is it something I
should have a mechanic check?

My little advice would be to
replace the motor mounts as I knew others with the same age of the car had this
problem. After the rubber parts have been replaced, the problem was gone. I just
inspected them on my 93 and the look good but on my friends 92 Stealth they
where totally gone and the engine almost jumped around
;-)

Intake plenum
Folks,
I attempted my 1st do it yourself at
changing my back plugs.
when I removed he intake plenum, I noticed it was
coated on
the inside with an oily residue. Is this normal ? Or
symptomatic
of bigger future troubles ?

Its "normal", and you can feel free
to clean it out with a carb cleaner, parts
bath (not
overnight)..etc.
Its PCV residue/blowby junk.

Spark plugs wires
Folks,
Any of your
Stealth owners out there ever change your own
spark plug wires ? I
ordered wires from Mechansicsville Dodge
in Va and they sent me the
Mitusbishi part #. I thought the wires
were the same, but the boots
that hook onto the plugs are too short
to work on my Stealth.
Also, the wires they sent me don't have that round rubber cap up
near the top
of the boot to seal off the cylinder you drop your plugs into.
Anyone know
the part # for DODGE wires ? I was under the assumption
they were the
same wires up until yesterday.
Thanks,

Sure :-)

Therefore you got the ones for the SOHC and not DOHC. I always
forget if the ES
was a DOHC or not ;-)

Simple answer : Return them and get
some aftermarket ones. The may be even
cheaper :)

Yes they
are ... but there are different cars !

Subject: Team3S:
Major Engine Knocking
Well, Last week I mentioned that there was a slight
knock coming from my
engine when I rev between 2000 to 3000rpm. Well, I
went to Tahoe this
weekend with my car and on the way back, the knocking got
much worse. It
now knocks at the time, and it is REALLY loud. I
can feel the vibrations in
my clutch pedal. After I noticed this, I
promptly pulled off the road and
got the car towed (130 miles) back
home. As far as I can tell, the knocking
has been getting increasingly
loud over the last few weeks until today when
it just got unbearably
bad. I'm afraid if I didn't get off the freeway when
I did, the engine
might have seized. The knocks are consistent with the
revs, and they
seem to slow down when I accelerate and become faster when I
let go of the
gas. Strange. The turbos still spool up, but not like they
used
to. There is no smoke coming from the exhaust and there is no
oil
leaking. The engine temp and oil pressure was still normal.
My friend says
that I "threw a rod." What do you guys
think? If I threw a rod, does that
mean I need a new
engine? What are the symptoms of a thrown rod and what
else might
this be. Once again, the knocking has been getting worse over
the last
1000 miles, but was only very slight until today.
Thanks for your
help,
Chris Maxwell
