As long as you realise, that after
you turn the rotors, they will have a
tendency to warp/shudder quicker, than
they did before.

Subject: Re:
Team3S: Rotors: turn or replace?
Thanks to all who responded with
input. A few points of clarification:
I am convinced that the
rotors need turning because 1) they shudder when braking
at high speed; 2)
the left-rear brake makes an annoying Doom Imp noise under
soft braking, once
per wheel revolution; 3) I'm changing pad compounds (Stillen
Metal Matrix
-> Mitsu -> Abex -> Porterfield).
None of the rotors are heavily
grooved, and the fronts were turned 30k miles ago
(only a tiny bit was
removed from the surface to remove slight warpage since I
wasn't certain
cutting was even permitted at all in Germany at that point). As
I said
in my previous post, I am surprised at the expense (Extreme
Motorsports
charged me far less), but new rotors are at least three times as
much so turning
seems like the way to go at this point.
Changing the
pads is easy and is something I have done several times now (after
Roger
showed me the first time). I also have two speed bleeders (not
installed
yet) and know that partially bleeding the system is not
difficult. However, I
currently have a mix of stock (DOT 4, I guess)
and DOT 5.1 synthetic brake fluid
in the system and would feel more
comfortable if everything were flushed and
replaced (though maybe not $250
more comfortable). My understanding is that a
full flush allows air
into the system and I'm not sure how to handle that.
So, that's the
deal. I'm still looking at a pricey rotor turning, but I'll
cancel the
bleed portion if folks think it's not worth it (or if Roger and I can
knock
it out).
-Jim
P.S.- Next on the agenda: install 1G BPV and figure
out why the car is wallowing
in curves.

I don't believe that you
can mix DOT 4 & 5.
If I recall, mixing these two it can cause a
disaster.
Check the brands to see if they were compatible or IMMEDIATELY get
the system
flushed "Regardless of cost." Maybe others on our list
can tell you for sure
on the compatibility of DOT 4 & DOT 5?
At
Autobahn speeds I would not even drive the car until this problem is

Hey, Jim,
Arty
is right. Whenever you mix two dissimilar fluids that move
around, you
create foam... As in AIR. You'll have to bleed the
brakes a dozen
times (after the car has been off for a while, but
still slightly warm,
ideally...), and you probably still won't get
rid of all of it. Do the
flush and be safe. It forces any foam out
of the lines and leaves pure
brake fluid.

Forrest

Ok, the gasket has blown out 3 times in the last
week.
They don't think it's related to increasing the boost via the
AVCR, but may
be related to the oil pump pressure release valve.
I notice when it runs, it
seems to run fine and the gasket will break after a
few days, however, the oil
level gauge seems to be hanging a bit higher than
normal (slightly above the
mid mark) most of the time.
Any
thoughts?

DOT 4 and DOT 5 are not compatible but
DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 are. Of course a total
replacement is always the best
choice. We exchanged almost every fluid out of
Jims car when we did the brake
lines. He's not runnign on a mixture unless he
put some DOT 4 into the
Castrol SRS DOT 5.1. But this is not a problem.

Team3S: ECS light flashing..need help
Hello All, please help..
a week
ago my "TOUR/SPORT" lights started flashing indicating a problem with
the ECS. The trouble code I retrieved was 62, for the Left Front
Strut. The
connector between the main harness, and the strut was replaced
last May by
AutoNation when I bought the car. It does not look
identical to the one on
the right strut, so it might be aftermarket.
Anyway, I checked the output
from the strut plug per the manual
instructions, and didn't find anything
conclusive. I reset the ECS
control and the lights would stop blinking for
awhile sometimes. A
couple days later, it worked fine/stayed in "TOUR" mode
for about
20 miles, then went to flashing & "SPORT" mode.
Do you have any
similar experiences? Suggestions on where/what & how to
check? I
plan on getting a genuine connector & putting that on, but for my
own
peace of mind would like to diagnose the problem & not just replace
parts until the symptoms
disappear.
TIA

My car's relatively light from the factory. I weighed
it a couple weeks ago at
the track and it weighed in at 3615 lbs with the
spare, jack, and toolkit in the
car and 1/4 tank of gas. I do have gutted
pre-cats, an ATR downpipe with no main
cat, and a Borla Catback. Probably
save 40lbs there. With no spare or gas I can
get it down to 3550lbs. That's
without a cage though...On a side note, does
anyone know what the stock
18" chrome rims weigh. I was thinking that might be a
good place to
loose some poundage.
