Subject: Team3S: Changing Dashboard Indicator Light Bulbs

On my '92 VR4, the Indicator light for the ECS "Tour" mode is not working,
and the SRS indicator light won't go out (I've tried all the tricks).  I
was wondering how much trouble it is to get to these bulbs, and maybe just
swap them out.

Subject: Team3S: boost behavior

I recently had a Hallman boost controller installed in my 95 VR4.  When
having the boost set at 15 psi I would get a spike to 16psi and then it
would settle at 15 psi eventually dropping to and holding 12 psi to redline.
My car is scheduled for a tranny inspection so I removed the boost
controller.   With the controller removed I still get boost readings
(spike?) to 15 psi and then the boost falls off to 9 psi.  Is this normal,
or should my boost readings just hit a steady 12 psi and then fall off to 9
psi ?  The other mods are gutted cats, FIPK, and Borla exhaust.  Should I be
concerned?

Thanks,
Len

Subject: Team3S: Shootout in Dayton, Ohio!

Aaron Ruppert:
937-433-2529

Looks like Dave Buschur is not organizing an event this year, his letter

in the same DSM Digest as your "Shootout in Dayton" letter...

Anyway, I am not sure how many people would come but I'd be happy to
help you
get a few more souls/entrants to help pay the bills and such...we
3000GT/Stealth
people are not many in number but would be happy to lend what support to

you that  you need.  We don't need much care and feeding  ;)  maybe just

a 3000/Stealth class, like Dave B had and committed to since
we're a family and all.  There is no danger we'd ever bring huge numbers

to dilute the DSM situation but we do bring a little variety!

Anyway, here's a little support for you and if anything I can do, let me
know.
Best will be finalizing the dates, so people can plan on vacation time
etc; I
think that the Shootout wasn't published much among our people years
past but if we can get schedule, that will help.

I/we sure appreciate somebody (you) stepping up; I bet most of us have
considered
posting a message saying "come to this track on this day and whatever
happens, fine"
but you the man.

Maybe you can get the rules/classes Dave used, exactly as he used them
last  year,
and just copy it so all rules are ALREADY clear--your only task is the
track rental,
telling people, thinking about arranging for trophies (if you want)
rather than starting
from ground ZERO and "re-inventing the wheel".  I think that duplicating
Dave's
rules and event from last year would make it a MANAGEABLE project, one
you
can fit into your life and not burn out  :)  Maybe it'd even be SIMPLE!

"Here are the dates"
"Here are the rules"  [see LAST YEAR'S]
"Here are the hotels, get your own deal"  (or arrange one)
"See you there!"

Again, any help I can give, let me know

Sincerely,
Jack Tertadian

Subject: Re: Team3S: THE BEST OIL FOR THE TT MOTOR

I cited an independent survey and tomorrow I can quote you from an article,
published in this months issue of a publication most all of you may never
hear of citing Mobil 1 as the best oil.  Publication is American Iron.  Were
is your independent studies or articles?  The information in the article I
cited can be obtained from any product data sheet - you can call Redline, to
find out for your self.

I have run Mobil since I purchased the car new in 92 and I just flat out
have not had a bit of trouble out of my car.  The only item I have replaced,
other than the general maintenance items, is a $4.95 reverse light switch.
I have 85,000 miles on my car and she runs great.  Based upon the mods I
have I should be running some where in the 400 HP range.

The main reason I don't reply to many posts is because I haven't had any
problems, to relate to those who have.  What really make me wonder is why
are all those folks who run Redline have all those problems.  Now as for
something I can't substantiate - the Redline Dealer at the local sport car
track (Summit Point) I attend told me that he would not advise running
Redline in a street car, because it doesn't have the detergents and
additives needed.  But I didn't cite this earlier because I didn't have
proof.

Now I suspect you had other engine problems and that prompted you to tear
your engine apart to start with and the oil may not have been the cause but
the result of your problem.  But running Mobil 1, I haven't had any
problems, but I guess if you run a different product you feel some reason to
defend it, so show me an independent write up, show me where Redline is
rated the best other than in the material they publish.  I am open, but
opinion should never be confused with facts.  Show me the facts, studies and
tests.

What me worry,
Dave Best

Subject: Re: Team3S: Shootout in Dayton, Ohio!

Damn, I'm extremely interested.  I haven't seen too many modified cars run
the 1/4.  Us Detroit 3SI members hit the track a few times a year, but I've
yet to see anyone run 11's.  Unfortunately, my car may be under the knife if
its in the Spring or early Summer, but I'd go just to watch Jack and others
if nothing else.

I would be interested in knowing if we would be renting the track and only
we would be at the shootout or are we going to be running with 20 other
makes and models.  If we are renting and need people, can we invite non 3SI
people with street cars (Vettes, Supras, F-bodies, Mustangs, etc.).  I know,
I'm getting ahead myself.

Looking forward to more information,

Not too much truble at all. There are two screws holding the dash bezel in,
after removing these, the bezel needs to be pryed out jently. Disconnect the
wiring harnesses on both sides, lower the steering wheel all the way down,
and you should be able to remove the bezel with a little finnagling. Then
there are 4 screws holding the gauge cluster in. After removing these,  you
should be able, again with a little finnagling, to remove the gauge cluster.
It helps to turn it upside down, so it's facing into the dash. Easy as pie.
Takes me 5 minutes.

Looks like most of the TT people are using Mobil 1. What is the recommended
viscosity from the manufacturer and do you thing 15-50 will be the best for
