Steve's right. When I go open tracking, I frequently forget to put the ECS
into sport mode, but it doesn't seem to make a difference, because it
switches into in automatically. At least it seems like it does. I can't
tell the difference in lap times.

This problem has come up in the past before, and I think it was
related to the clutch pedal height being incorrently set up...  or
maybe it was the clutch free play.  Someone on this list should
remember more about it.

I can't say for sure this is your problem, but it wouldn't hurt to
have these things checked out (and it might be a good idea to
get a second opinion from another service shop which did not
do the install).

Well, my last post (tho I haven't been active on this list)
Car is gone, so here's some extra stuff someone may be interested in.
Everything is plus shipping, and all is negotiable.  If you live close
to Richmond, VA, I'll meet you.

92 VR4 Factory wheels - NOT mint.  Some wheels better than others. Could
be good for snow, or spare, track?  $600

Wolf Car Cover - Evolution 3 fitted w/ storage bag.  I know this will
fit  1st gen vr4, prolly all 1st gen.  Someone who knows dimensions
better may know if it would work on 2nd gen.  $40

CoverCraft Sunshade - custom cut for 1st gen front windshield.  $20

Factory in-dash radio.  This is the double DIN single cd, cassette
headunit.  Was working when I pulled it out 3 years ago.  $30

I also have some odds and ends like factory air box, space saver spare
and jack, and all those plastic bins that go in the trunk.  Make me an
offer if you're interested at all, 'cause it'll go to the trash heap
otherwise.

Its been a fun ride guys!

Kermit

Subject: Team3S: Brake fluids

Soon, I will be installing Brembo Big Red calipers from a Porsche Turbo and
new stainless steel lines on my Mitsu. Since the entire system will drained
of fluid anyway, I thought it might be a suitable time to change over to a
better brake fluid than what I am using now (Racer's Blue)

Question 1: What's the best brake fluid to put in for open tracking? Why?

Question 2: Racer's Blue is non-synthetic and Motul is synthetic, so I
can't mix them, right?  I have a pint of both hanging around the garage,
but not enough of either to do a complete change. Hate to see it go to waste.

Question 3: Any drawbacks to using full-race fluid other than cost? I know
there's some fluid out there that costs a zillion dollars a pint but, with
my luck, it probably leaks like a sieve.

Question 4: Is there a proper sequence for doing a complete brake fluid
change? Especially if I go to synthetic? Last time, we just drained out the
old stuff and poured in Racer's Blue, but that isn't synthetic.

Question 5: What's the proper pre-race procedure for brake fluid? We've
been bleeding the brakes before every event. We bleed 'em until the burnt
black fluid stops and fresh blue starts, and then top off with fresh
Racer's Blue. You guys don't want me to replace ALL the fluid before every
event, do you?

All advice welcome

I read this tip someplace, not sure where. When changing fluid use a different
color, e.g. blue when the existing is clear, that way you can tell when the fluid
is flushed.
If you'r going to flush regularly then any good high boiling point fluid should work.

I'd like to make a request of anyone who has upgraded their exhaust system
and taken out the stock active exhaust control servo. If you feel like
giving this servo motor to a charity "project," I'd really appreciate it.
I'm willing to pay for shipping and as little as possible for the motor (i'm
cheap).. so please, if you've removed the stock exhaust and have the servo
just lying around doing nothing, i'd love to take it off your hands, just
send it my way! Please respond privately to ojm@iname.com
Thanks guys!

What about comparing those 2 turbos to the 17G? Does anybody have the flow
maps or data on it? Has anybody tested that unit? I don't own a TT, but I am
interested for knowledge sake.

Subject: Team3S: RE: Trany Question F-Up

Hi there:
Thank you, all for the reply of my message. The information you guys gave me
make me think that the particular problem will make our cars to loose their
values very fast and soon or later are going to be collectable items only
for the junk yards! And just thinking loud: We are thinking for mods and
increasing the power of the motors, without to have a reliable trany we
can't have our 400+ HP at the street...
I am an importer (not cars industry) and I have experience of US- European
trade. Also I am not in the US mainland but in Puerto Rico. I do not if the
agreements they have are covering my island but if not obviously I could
import parts and ship them UPS to the mainland! I sent an e mail to the
sales Mgr of Getrag in Germany telling him that I am interesting to become a
Getrag distributor for PR.  I will keep you posted next week if I have some
reactions. At the meantime Jack Tertadian tell me if I can get a 3rd gear
synchronizer from the Metric guys? Do they have it available? How can I
contact them?
Gentleman I think this is a problem that has to be solved NOW. We all are
going to need trany parts soon or later. Did all of you (no matter if you
have them) are able to pay $3-5k for a simple trany problem?
