I am getting a good deal on a Momo steering wheel.  I will be swapping
mine out next week.  I have a couple of question on the SRS light.

1: The new steering wheel does not have an airbag.  Does the SRS light
stay on because it thinks there is a proble?

2: How do I deactivate the airbag so it does not go off when I am taking
it out?

3: How hard is it to take the old steering wheel off?

Thanks

Where did you get the steering wheel adapter??? Let me know because ive been
searching all over the place!
On the steering wheel disconnect the battery overnight just to be safe. Then
there are 4 10mm nuts on the backside of the wheel (very easy to get too)
removing these will remove the air bag section and just unplug the
electrical connections to it(like the radio controls and horn and airbag).
Then remove the cruise control selector. Then you will have to remove the
17mm nut on the center shaft and before you do this make certain the wheels
are alighned straight!!! And with a firm grip and use leverage grab the
wheel and just start pulling and it will pop off hard (my ass is bruised
from it
:(
Then wala wheel gone.
On the SRS system you have the choice of removing the center console(between
the front seats where you can put your pop cans or misc. stuff) and the SRS
computer is there or you can just unplug the light from the display.

Hi Moe,

I removed my airbag a couple monthes ago to replace a horn button..
according to the manual, you only need to have the power off for 30
seconds in order to discharge the system..  I left mine off for about
10 minutes just to be sure..  no problems..  I have a bunch of pictures
of the job..  I'll try to post them on my site for you to look at..
although they're for a 2nd gen wheel, I don't think there's any
significant difference in the removal/installation..  since I didn't
have my steering wheel off, I don't know if it's common for them to
be easily pulled off, but keep in mind you might need a puller to do
the job..

If anyone cares, I just posted the pics..  it dawned on me that the
horn buttons are integrated into the airbag on 1st gens, but I would
imagine the connections are basically the same..  if nothing else,
at least you can see what's behind the airbag..

I had my steering wheel off not too long ago.  I had to use a steering wheel
puller to get it off.

Subject: Team3S: Opening up Headlights

Question:

Has anyone on this list ever opened up
their headlight housing on a second-gen
3000GT or Stealth?  It would be nice to
clean up the glass and mess around with
other stuff.

I'm wondering if it's possible and how
long it takes.

The headlights section doesn't seem to
be in the general service manual, so I'm
guessing that it's in the electrical service
manual (which I don't have).

Hey Errin,

I took one of my headlights (94+) out last fall and took the little metal
clips off.  It looks like they are sealed together with glue or sealant.  I
wasn't brave enough to go any farther.  I also couldn't find anything in the
manuals about taking them apart.  It wasn't in the mechanical or electrical
manuals.  If you get brave enough to open them, let me know. ;)  I know the
dealer only sells the whole assembly.

Subject: Team3S: Intermittent starting problem

Hey guys,

When I turn the key to start the car, sometimes it will not start.  There is
still power because the electronics still have plenty of juice, and there is
a new battery anyways.  There is also no clicking sounds from the starter,
I've had that problem before.  The problem is almost like when you turn the
key without pushing the clutch in, except that I have the clutch to the
floor.  The clutch was also just replaced a couple weeks ago, but the
problem started almost a year ago and seems to have gotten much worse
lately.

I've noticed that the problem gets worse when it rains, and it rained a lot
last week and the problem got really bad a few days ago.  So I'm guessing
some kind of electrical problem?  It also seems like other people have a
harder time starting it than I do.  My friend told me it is easier to start
when you push the key in hard while turning it.  I don't know what I do
differently than the other people that have tried to start it (mechanics,
parking attendants).

So what do you guys think?  I'd rather not have to go to the dealer to get
the electrics diagnosed.  Also, how hard would it be to have a push button
starter implemented into the car that perhaps bypassed the "key" part of the
ignition?

Thanks,
Chris Maxwell
