Noble...

A flange couldn't hurt, but may be more trouble than it's worth. The hose
and clamps has held it for me, at boost levels to 20psi. I check it
regularly and it hasn't budged. The "problem" with the stock unit is that
the plastic doesn't compress easily, hence the tendency to slip off under
pressure. It's also VERY easy to deform the o-ring when installing the stock
y-pipe. Once the o-ring is damaged, it's a downhill battle.

Dave made an interesting observation, it could be that we're actually
increasing temps to the throttle body and plenum by using aluminum. Another
situation where someone would need to perform some objective tests to be
sure.

BTW...no cabin fever here in Oregon. We just had two BEAUTIFUL sunny days.
Temps in the 30s, but clear sunny skies.   :-)

Looking forward...Chris

Hey Chris,

Are u saying that all one needs is a silicone hose adapter?  Even with it
clamped on,
wouldn't it still "slip" off over time?  The reason why I'm concerned about
this is once I
drop in some 15G's, and run 16-18psi, I don't want anymore problems.    :)

Would you take the silicone attachment one step further and somehow try to
have a
groove or bump along the intake plenium to make sure the clamp can't come
off?
Or is this redundant?

Thanks again,
Noble

Although I have never taken any official driving lessons, I've been
born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, (Canada) where there is constantly
a lot of snow and black ice, and where the weather oftentimes can reach
- -60 Celsius with windchill (Sorry about the Centigrade reading, I'm
Canadian).  I know I'm not the greatest car racer out there, but I too
have always prided myself in being a great winter driver.
Unfortunately, being a young yuppie, I have made one of the stupidest
mistakes in my life.  Just this winter, I returned home for the
holidays, (having to pay for out of town University fees and living
expenses, I had to sell my own car), but took my mom's trusty Volvo out
for a spin in the middle of the night.  Another cocky boy about my age
(18) in a V6 older style (I think late 80s) Chrysler Van wanted to go
for a run with me, We were at a red light, 2 lane merging into a 1 lane
entry onto a freeway.  Alas, his acceleration got the better of me as he
pulled first into the 1 lane.  But I pulled out ahead of him in the last
stretch of the freeway, I think due mostly to his being scared to go too
fast under winter conditions.  After I won and pulled off the freeway, I
decided to call a friend and tell him about the challenge.  This was at
2:00 am, and I had dialed the wrong number, and pressed Send before I
realized the wrong number.  Not wanting to bother anyone, I tried to
look for the End button, and as I was doing so, I hit a red light.
Basically, I rearended somebody, right after coming off a race on a
freeway.  I guess I'm here to vent my mistakes as well.  I've been
cocky, hearing about cell phones causing accidents, but I just had to
learn the hard way including the loss of a lot of trust from my mother.
=(
Anyways, I should get back to work now,
But thanks for listening as well,
Moses

Anyone care to take a shot at describing how the turbos used in our cars
differ from one another and what the different designations mean. For
example: Does TD04 define the housing and 9B define the impellers ???
What about the 13G and 15G are they larger impellers or just a more
aggressive impeller ???  What about clipping --- I assume it changes the
shape of the impeller but how ???  Maximum size [ flow ] in the TD04 shell ??

To clarify the Team3S position on off-topic posts such as those recently
submitted by list members, non-technical posts about the handling of our cars in
extreme situations will be considered acceptable, as such information is
beneficial to the group.  However, stories that do not involve or directly
relate to 3000GTs and Stealths or that describe plain old driver negligence do
NOT qualify as valid contributions to Team3S.  As previously mentioned, there
are other lists that thrive on such posts.

If you disagree with this position or wish to suggest an alternative approach,
please contact the admins directly.  We are doing our best to maintain a
top-notch technical forum here and want only what is best for our members.
Thank you for your understanding and participation!

Sorry, I only meant it as a friendly reminder from the lesson I had learnt.  I
entirely forgot the team rules.  I apologize.

Hi All,

Is $60/$40 parts/labor fair for replacement of my EGR pipe?
The dealer is already into the timing belt and found a broken egr pipe.

I've not looked at it on my VR-4, but the ones I remember from cars past

was just a bit of rubber hose.

Thanks,
JAT

Nono, the EGR pipe is far from a rubber hose ... if the dealer is saying the
truth !

The correct EGR pipe leads from the rear O2 sensor housing to the intake
plenum. It is slightly flexible and msut withstand exhaust temperatures and
therefore not that cheap. But $100 to replace it ... You should be able to
do it yourselfs as there are only four bolts and two gaskets. You should be
able to get one at a salvage yard for max $20 or so. I'd say that the dealer
should show you the leak or the damaged part.

Hope this helps

***This is the NEW Team3S list. See message end for more info.***

I have a question that might benefit us 94-95 Quasi OBD I / OBD II TT
owners.

Here is the question:

Would it be possible to swap the ECU from a 94-95 3sTT with a 93's ECU?

They both use 2 Ox. sensors and I'm assuming everything else is the same (as
far as engine monitoring).

Are the connectors and pins that plug into the ECU the same?

I realize that boost is lower with the 1 gen. ECU's, however, boost
controllers negate that.

Ok... Now you are probably asking yourself, what is this guy trying to
accomplish?  Data Logging!

If we can swap the ECU's and change the connector to the one the data logger
uses, us 94-95 guys will be able to monitor and data log as we tune our
cars....

What do you think?  Have I gone off the deep end on this one?

Trent
