Tim,

You're probably aware of what Jack T. is trying to do(working with a tranny
shop to make parts for us).  But, if you can't wait, you should be able to
buy a new tranny for your car for under $3000(with our discount.)  The
problem is that even if the xfer case is good, it will have to be replaced
if you buy a new tranny.  This is because they(Getrag) no longer make the
small output shaft tranny.  Your car will have the small shaft if the
tranny/xfer case are original.  You will have to count the splines to know
for sure.

Good Luck!!

The drilling is not particually precise --- a center punch and a hand drill
is all I used. I did cut a little of the strut tower to get maximum adjustment.
I owe Merrit some pictures which I will redo this weekend and send to
you also.

that's two Joe's w/ '91 TT's that agree.  And you may
as well have them change the water pump, drive belts
since they're down there...

It wouldn't be a bad idea to do the belt a bit early as has already been
advised. One should pay attention to their own hunches in life and all you
are asking for is confirmation of such a hunch. While at it, be certain to
change the belt tensor as well, as I do not yet see that mentioned. The rest
of the advice as spot on. Maybe check seals while you're at it and replace
if starting to leak.

Best

Subject: Team3S: TT Stereo LED

***This is the NEW Team3S list. See message end for more info.***

Hi all,

This isn't "extremely" technical, but I've been banging my head against
a wall trying to find an answer.  I have a 1994 Stealth TT with a
Factory Infinity Stereo system; the built in Equalizer has these little
black plastic sliders that are lit on the inside with a tiny (guessing
12 volt), yellow LED.  So far I've managed to find replacement black
sliders from a Mitsu dealer, but after months of searching I haven't
been able to locate a source to buy the little yellow LEDs that go
inside the sliders (I've got two that are burned out).  Anyone have an
idea (my local radio shack and Mitsu dealer have been no help at all).

Thanks.

Greg

Dave:

Your note that engine sometimes sounds like it comes close to starting
but doesn't is telling.  It sounds as if you have a timing problem. You
should check to see that when your No. 1 piston is TDC the crank angle sensor
is aligned in such a way that it is telling the computer to fire the No. 1
plug.  Do you have an inductive timing light (the kind that has the clip that
attaches to the spark plug wire)?  If so, that is an easy way to check when
your No. 1 plug fires.  Put it on the No. 1 plug and have a friend crank the
engine.  Take the timing belt covers off and align your timing marks.  That
will put you at TDC.  Then have your friend crank the engine and see if the
timing light fires "around" every time your camshaft timing marks align.  If
not, your ignition timing is off.  Since  you just completed a very time
consuming, tedious and complex repair, I would check this first.  It should
take you no longer than 10 minutes.

Keep us advised and good luck.

Joe 91TT
