Team3S: possible transfer case problem
It's Probably just the
Clutch!
Test driving in 4:th gear with the engine under load at ~3500
rpm's then
"tap" the clutch, do the rpm rise and imideateley drops
back to 3500 when
you release the clutch? or does it continue rise without
acceleration?
If the later happens then I'm 99% that it is your clutch
that is the
problem.

problem
This is my first post but its a serious problem so
here goes:
I noticed this afternoon, while tooling around in 3rd,
that if i floored
the gas the engine would just rev right up to about 5000
rpm before id get
any acceleration. The turbo spools but theres just
nothing getting to the
wheels. Am i looking at a transfer case
problem? I just had it replaced
about 500 miles ago, and im about due
for and oil change. Any suggestions
as
to problems and/or solutions
would be much appreciated.

:)
In answer to the questions about costs...
I'm just getting some
year end tax papers together & I see
I'm well over $30K. This is
starting from my already
modified 11 sec base & is in no way a final
number.
It does not include trailer, tow vehicle or the car itself.
Maybe
we should start an investment club to go along
with a list of mods that can
be done :)
I'd guess another $10K to go for completion.
Serious numbers
for a serious car.

Team3S: Boost/exhaust issue
I noticed an interesting problem, while
having my exhaust system worked on.
Before I took my car into the muffler
shop, I was using my cat as a tail
pipe. My boost was set to 14 pounds
with no problem and it held it at 14.
Now since I put the rest of the muffler
system back on, im hitting 14 pounds
then dropping down to 5 pounds. I wonder
what is going on. Any leads on
this has anyone tried to run there car
without an exhaust any ideas.

These are the correct plugs. AFAIK, NGK
doesn't build them anymore but they
are the same as the Mitsu plugs with the
same numbers. Regap them to 0.034"
and you're ready for more boost
:)

I do not correctly
understand, do you mean there was no cat-back, just open
after the cat or
what ?

Please note, more backpressure causes to reduce the pressure
difference
before an after the turbine wheel. This causes the wheel to lower
the speed
and therefore pressure produced is getting lowered as well. Now on
low to
mid rpms, the backpressure is needed for more tourque while on the
upper
range a maximum flow is required. With the open exhaust you'll
not
experience the upper rpm restriction but you'll also have a reduce in
low
end power and tourque.
The perfect exhaust for our cars has no
pre-cats, a high flow cat and a
silent high flow muffler that provides as
less as possible resistance in the
high end with a good backpressure in the
lower. Not easy to do !

I agree with Roger. Another list
I'm on described A/F gauges (based
on production O2 sensors) as "a
pretty light show". The problem is
that production O2 sensors are
sensitive only in a narrow range around
stoich - 14.7:1 A/F ratio. To
get accurate A/F ratios you need a
wideband O2 sensor.
For a more
indepth discussion on O2 sensors see:
http://vehicle.me.berkeley.edu/~markw/efi/SAE920289/p4.gifI
refer to Figure 1 wherein the Y axis on the right is O2 millivolts and
the X
axis is lambda (1.00 lambda = 14.7:1 A/F ratio). Here, you see
that
only in a very narrow range around stoich is the O2 sensor's
response
dramatic. Outside of that it shows very little response. So,
I
maintain that even as high as 13.5:1 A/F ratio (rich but not enough for
a
turbo application) the gauge would still show full rich.
>Hence,
the question "Do I REALLY need the HKS Cosmo pump?"
Find
yourself a wideband O2 sensor and find out what's really
happening to answer
that question. Superior Dyno in Fairfield,
California charges $75 for 3
pulls on their dyno and wideband O2
sensor logging. Course, if you're
AWD you have a small logistical
problem.
Realize that you don't always
hear detonation. Reading plugs is
an inexpensive way to know if you're
getting any, though.

<gags>
$400?! I don't know what fuel pump HKS
uses, but there's a vehicle
application guide for 255lph Walbro (plenty for
now) at:

here it is...'91 - '97 3000GT/Stealth $100 or $115. Contact Ron

Phew! That was pretty long, but I guess I should
introduce myself. I
just joined a couple of days ago looking for more
info on 3000s. I don't
actually have the joy of owning one, but I know
some owners and look
for technical discussions. I'll primarily lurk,
but if I can offer any
insights I'll do so!
Besides benchracing and
talking about cars I run open tracks (aka
lapping sessions) with some of the
local clubs in the Bay Area. Hope
to see some of you out
there!

Thanx to all who responded. I
was unable to look up the part number but
submitted a description to Tall.
Mitsu. via their web site. They
identified the part and promptly
responded with a price quote that
included the group discount ($16.96 vs
$21.20). A nice experience,
particularly after a disasterous E-commerce
fiasco with a company in NYC
that "lost" my order for a digital

Xmas present. :-(
Also thanx
to Henry in NZ who has the part I need and offered to ship it
to
me!
The list comes through again, and the world grows smaller by the
minute.
