This recall is more than a year or two old. My '91
(purchased new) had the
recall accomplished in 1996. Highly doubtful
that three years later a leak
will be covered. From what I can
recollect, the recall was a one time
inspection, no parts required.
Call the dealer with your VIN and they can
tell you if the recall applies, if
it has been accomplished, by who, when,
etc. They have an amazing
amount of information of work accomplished by
their dealership network.
Most honest dealerships (difficult to find) will
work with you to fix
problems with poor quality parts but they can't warrant
a part to last
forever. As parts wear, leaks are inevitable. Good
Luck!

Team3S: Recall update (tcase)
I guess I was misinformed... The recall for
the 3/S cars exists, but only
affects the 90-91 built cars (about 4000 of
them). However, if you seem to
have a leak, don't just sit idly by and pay
someone to fix it, send in a
petition to the NHTSA if you hear others having
similar leaks/problems.
I can see from the bottom of my car, that my 92
stealth has a nice leak from
the tcase as well.
Even if I was wrong
about the recall, the safety info I suggested
still
applies!
Thanks!

Hey everyone just a quick note:
Alamo
Intercooler set: 500.00 (note that you will have to supply
misc.
bolts, possibly a couple of brackets and clean the pipes out rust
etc)
The intercoolers are in good shape, just dirty and can be used with
3-4
hours of cleanup time.
The right side IC is bent a little, nothing
that will hamper airflow though.
94 Front bumper cover, painted
white 150
92 Active aero set (front & rear wing, ecu,
pigtales, everything to make it
work) 600.00
92 head light
assemblies left & right, 200.00 each
92 rear
bumper cover 150.00
92 front bumper cover 150.00
side
skirts, 100.00 each (left & right)
92 Hood
250.00
92/93 radio with surround sound (premium unit)
200.00 each I have two of
them.
I'll consider all offers,
but include shipping with your offer.
The body parts are still on the
car as of now, but will be removed in the
next month or so. I might
remove them faster if someone really had to have
them
now.

Team3S: transfer case questions
Well, it's official.. my transfer
case is fubar'd.. so here's the questions:
I suppose I should be
writing this directly to Mikael, but maybe others here
will have some
input.. (btw, I have been through his transfer case rebuild
page.. http://www.3000gt.nu/getragpage.htm)
Are
the 5-speed and 6-speed transfer cases the same? meaning can I use
the
same part numbers as Mikael has listed for rebuilding his 5-speed?
(I have a
95 VR4 6-speed).
I'm pretty mechanically adept though
I don't have some special tools like
air rachets and such..
anything special I might need?
my mechanic mentioned something about
getting the pinion gear to line up
perfectly, which would otherwise whine a
lot even though nothing was really
wrong with the internals transfer
case.. have any of you experienced this?
I may just have my
mechanic take care of it as I don't really have a whole
weekend to spend on
this.. He said it _probably_ would be around $300 in
labor.. Does
that sound reasonable? If I can't find the parts elsewhere,
I may just
order the rebuild kit from Max Mayants at GTR Motorsports.. Any
other
suggestions for parts? I think all I need is the bearings, but
we'll
see what the output shaft looks like when it comes out. (btw, I
do know
about Kormex, East Street Auto, MAG, Southern Gear, and the various
dealers
we have discounts set up with..)
I'll be making a bunch of
calls tomorrow and will be happy to share any new
info I dig up..
oh,
and if anyone paid attention to my last post, the metal-on-metal sound
when
turning at full lock was coming from a bent brake shield that was
rubbing.. I wish the transfer case was that easy to fix!
;)
Thanks in advance for any info!

Team3S: am noise/rattle in a 92 3000VR4
Hi Folks - I am a new 3000VR4
owner with a perplexing problem, so I thought
I would try out the list for
some tech advice.........
My car is a '92 3000 VR4 with 58K miles on it.
The car is in excellent
condition, with no problems other than the typical
notchy shifter and some
slight ticking at startup. When I listen closely when
I start the car up
after it has sat overnight, I can hear a faint rattling
sound. When I
popped the hood I could still hear the sound like it was
comming from the
middle of the car nearest the winshield, perhaps under the
engine. The
noise does not increase with engine rpm and disappears after the
car has
warmed up after a minute or so. The engine makes good power and
runs
smoothly. the only mod to the car is an HKS manual boost controller
which
is set at about 13.5psi (I think 9 is the stock setting). The timing
belt
and waterpump were replaced 1K miles ago. The sound only occurs in the
am
after the car has sat all night. When I restart the car during the day
the
sound does not manifest, even if the car has been sitting for 5-6 hrs.
Anyone have any ideas of what this could be? I think it must be
something
to do with the exhaust. I thought I'd query the group before taking
the car
to the mechanic to try and track down (but I am a bit paranoid having
just
got the car so I have an appointment to take it in next
week).

RE: Team3S: am noise/rattle in a 92 3000VR4
Kevin...
Noises that
come and go like you describe are almost always temperature
related. As the
vehicle heats up, various components get anywhere from
fairly hot to very hot
(800 degrees). When they swell they stop rattling,
squeaking, rubbing, etc.
The fact that it doesn't recur during the day is
likely because whatever part
it is takes at least eight hours to cool back
down (and shrink). I would be
very cautious with any mechanic you don't know
extremely well (and trust) or
you may be buying things you don't need and
could cause all sorts of new
problems.
An alternative is to get it up on jack stands overnight and
check it out
when it's cold. It will likely be easier to pinpoint from
underneath. You're
probably right, it could be part of the exhaust, or the
heat shields on the
turbos.
Looking forward...Chris

Hey Kevin;
Sounds like a
noisy solenoid on the firewall. I don't think it's faulty, and
whereas mine
has not done this, I have heard others complain/report this
sound in their

Re: Team3S: am noise/rattle in a 92 3000VR4
Ticking and rattling noises
are tuff to figure out. If the rattle is not
RPM related than it is
not the infamouse lifter tick. Another common
problem with out cars,
especially when they are cold, is the stock boost
control solenoid can make
ticking sounds. The solenoid can be found along
the firewall. My
Eclipse's solenoid always ticks away in the wintertime.
When you start
your car, the ECU sends signals to your boost solenoid to
open more of
less. Thus causing a ticking sound.
If it is truly a rattling
sound, than I'm not sure what it could be. But a
ticking sound could
be the boost solenoid. Can you provide anymore
information?

Curt

Hi Jim,
If you are going to do road racing, most
clubs/tracks require an SA
rated helmet and also newer than 95 rating.
I got the Super Bandit
several years ago and am pleased with it. The SA
rating is fine for
road courses and drag strips. I believe one can also
use it for
motorcycles.
