Subject: Team3S: Porterfields Brakes.
Got my cryoed rotors and
"R-4 S Street High-performance & Limited
Competition Pads" from
porterfields.
Got the rotors installed (no time to do it
myself).
I followed the brake in procedure for their pads, drove about 50
kms to have
correct contact between pads and discs, I accelerated until 100
mph (160
kmh), and used the brake and accel to, at the same time, brake AND
keep the
same speed (boost was all the way up)
After 7 kms doing so, I
finally had NO brakes at all (I did that at night,
no traffic around).
NO
warping on the new rotors.
Using engine brake, I went to a stop, and the
brakes were SMOKING.
Now, I have NO warping on the rotors, and the car
will stop at about .98 to
1.0 G (abs will engage)
(did about 50 "panic
stops", from 30 km/h up to 160 km/h, external temp was
about
25°C)
But, the FIRST breaking in the morning, when it's cold, allows me
to brake
"only" at 0.8 G
Not bad
FYI, the same pads on
my 300ZXTT allows me to slow down at at average of
1.08 G...
but I have
bigger tires (255/40ZR17)

Team3S: 1994 3000gt SL: fried wires: battery just click-clicks
:RESULTS
Update:
It was the alternator that went out (it and
the alarm drained the
battery). The windshield wiper motor (where the
white electrical grease
was) is apparantly OK. We found the alarm
valet switch too finally.
It's good to be driving that car again.
Now if I could just find a
cheaper place than the dealer to find things like
the cigarette lighter,
the other socket recepticle on the console, a fog
light, the leather(?)
gear shifter knob and the leather brake handle, I'd
feel better.

wires: battery just click-clicks
Hello All!
I just bought
a 1994 3000gt SL.
This is my first post to the list and I already have a
problem. I've
ordered the shop manual (expensive)
but I am trying to
figure out what the cylinder-shaped thing is mounted on
the passenger side
firewall
(under the hood): it is melted (and white "electrical" stuff is
splattered
on and around it) at the grey clip
where 4 dark blue wires
(with an orange stripe on each) leed into it. I
think it might be the
anti-lock
brake system (what's it called, ABS?) or something. I was
just sitting at
idle on a raining day with the
windshield wipers, radio,
AC and radar detector on and the radio started
receiveing much
interference
and humming loudly, then it shut on and off, but this was after
the radar
detector kept going in and out
of different band modes. I
turned the radar detector off and unplugged it
and when I left and
approached
the first stop the brakes kind of made a deep noise as I braked
and the
antilock brake light went on.
I kept the radio off and managed to
barely pull in the garage 10min. later
and I could not start the car
then:
all I got was the clicking sound that one hears with a drained
battery.
I checked the voltage with
the car off and got about 12.12 volts (sorry,
didn't do it with the key
on).
