FWIW I had my GC setup down around 2.5" below stock. With the active aero on
the distance from the bottom of the front aero dam to the ground was around
1.75". And more importantly you WILL bottom out on the shocks. I had only 1/2
of the bump stops left and you could see that the shock piston max. travel
was VERY short.
Even with my 650 lb front spring rates the shocks did bottom out. Luckily I
did not damage the pistons.

Went to the "long" track event at Pocono July 10&11th. On day two you use ALL
of the NASCAR front straight, ALL of turn 1 and 2 onto the long pond
straight, and into the tunnel turn, then into the north course infield. 140
on front straight, tap brakes down to 115 into turn 1. Hold 115 through turn
and get back into it. Up to 150 just prior to tunnel turn, then HARD on
brakes into a hairpin left hander. 150 not good enough so I increased speed
into turn 1 at 5mph increments. 120 not bad, 125 feeling a little daring. 130
started to get loose in middle of turn, so stopped trying to get past 125.
This resulted in JUST touching 160 in back straight. I am at 130 at the apex
coming of of the turn in 4th. It takes a LONG time to get from 130 to 160.
Brake system held up great as there is quite a bit of cool down time
especially when you don't use the brakes going into turn 1. Total length of
track is 2.5 miles. During the last session of the day developed a high speed
backfire on the back straight so I decided to call it a day, loaded up the
car on the trailer and drove home. A few days later I was changing the
G-Force's over to my street tires. Took off the left front and had a 6" strip
of canvas showing on the inside. Yikes says I. If not for the backfire
starting up I would have stayed out and probably would have visited the nice
little concrete wall in turn 1.

$450 is a good price for a new product. The current S-AVC-R can be get for
$420 and the "Indiglo" is definitely the newer one. If you need an EBC, or
want to replace your old EVC, it's a good choice. But as said ... where do

Why the INSIDE of the left front?  My two Michelin XGTs are worn down to
the steel belts  (I can see the air inside the tire) on the insides of both
fronts. The rest of the tires are bald, down past the wear bars from
running open track events and an autocross. Why would we be wearing on the
insides?

pattern that should help in handling and chunking. Tire Rack doesn't show a 255/40/17

This is all well and good, but one word of caution from a bad group purchase
experience.

One shop dealer who handled a Ground Control group purchase stiffed me and
Ground Control for several hundred dollars, possibly more for GC.

Before anyone orders anything I urge you to find out who exactly will be
handling the money and that all transactions are handled in a legally
recorded manner.  Make sure you have all contact information and reputable
references for the dealer and anyone else involved in the transaction.

Handling a blown deal across state lines gets sticky and costly.

I am NOT suggesting the Apex'i GP is tainted in any way.  This is merely a
heads up.  GPs go on successfully to everyone's benefit.  It's good to see.
It only takes one or two though to make a good thing bad as we all know
(kind of why this list got started in the first place as you will recall).

As to the effectiveness of the new offerings from Apex'i, they look great.
I am especially encouraged by the new Revolution series Super AFC.  They
have done it right by the looks of it by calibrating for both airflow and
RPM.  If these units being offered at $450 are for the new models then I'd
say that's a decent deal if they work as well as they should based on the
paper specifications.

They are cool enough looking to forgo the stock stereo mounting location
don't you think?  ;)

I have both an S-AFC and an S-AVCR (old models) and they are of top quality
and work exactly as advertised.

Barry

I have experience with Advan A032 245/45/17s. This was the only race
tire I've used, I usually run with used MXX3s that I pick up from
used-tire places. (I can't afford replacing tires after every event!!)
I liked the MXX3 the best (on the track) compare to other street tires.
But the MXX3 can not compare to the performance/stickyness of the
A032s. I literally took of seconds off my lap time! From constant 1:41s
to 1:37s (<-- with A032)!!

I had no problems with chunking. The A032s lasted me about 3 weekends,
but less if you insist on tons of lap time. I definately recommend
trying them out! I would like to hear feedbacks on 3S owners who tried
the Comp T/A R1s. These are the most used on the track. I wonder how
they hold up to our 2 ton whale.

Subject: Team3S: Life and Times of Yoko's and G-force tires

I have had quite a few track events using both the Yoko A032's and the new
G-Force tires. Last year I used the Yoko's for about 8 track days. Compared
to the stock tires they were excellent. Wear was pretty reasonable. Had to
replace the left front late in the season, just pushing the car too hard in
certain right handers. This year I have been on the new G-force 255/45/17's.
They are quite a step up from the Yoko's in overall grip especially in turn
in response. Wear is approx. triple the Yoko's. After about 5 track days I
went back to to Yoko's for one track day and felt like I was back on street
tires :(  At this time I have used the G-forces for 10 track days and have
corded one tire and the rest are close. Remember due to the weight of these
cars tires and brakes are HIGH wear items. In addition I think I got a little
more life out of the G-Forces now that I am not just power sliding through
half of the turns. I am now a lot smoother through the track so I am
scrubbing off less of the tires. On the other hand I am quite a bit faster
this year clicking off 2min 28 sec at Watkins Glen which is around 82 mph
avg. for the 3.45 mile course which has some fairly high speed turns.

Did you buy full depth G-forces or shaved?
What's the difference in price between the G and the Yokos?

One last question: Are the Yokos directional? They seem to have a tread

All,

If anyone is interested, I've decided to honor all of the Group Purchases
prices that come along here on the Starnet and 3000GT/Stealth mailing lists..
So if anyone see's any cool group purchases, but would like to buy their
parts through a shop that specializes in the Stealth/3000GT give us a call!
We also offer free tech. help over the phone for our Stealth/3000GT customers
when they install their new parts.. (We have plently of Super AFC's instock,
and will be getting the first shippment of new AVC-R's).

On another note, we are coming out with a new Front Mount Intercooler
modification!  It will consist of 2" and 3" mandrel bent aluminum pipes that
run from the turbos to the throttle body (no y-pipe to worry about anymore)
and a large intercooler core.  I'm going to try to have pictures up early
next week at www.AlteredAtmosphere.com.

Another project I'm working on for our cars will be a set of headers/garret
turbos.  I hope to have the kits available by the end of August, so this will
be a new alternative to the 15 and 17G turbos..

I've also had a few people ask me about making aluminum y-pipes.  If there is
some interest out there (5-10 people) I'll go ahead and have them made up -
so e-mail me LotoBoost@aol.com if your interested.

Lastly, I now have the Haltech Ignition and Fuel computer on my 1994 Stealth
tt.  Other than the lack of a knock sensor, I'm really happy with the Haltech
and have fuel and ignition programs available for the Stealth/3000GT if
anyone is interested.  The Haltech computers are not expensive (around $1,200
in parts) but do take a good 12-15 hours to install and this is NOT something
the average do-it-yourselfer would probably want to try..  Once installed and
with one of the programs, two or so hours of tuning on the road is usually
needed, or about 20hours on the road without the Stealth/3000GT program.

2.)  What do some of the following terms mean and would anyone care to add
some abbreviations that I've missed?

TT:    Twin Turbo     (I got this one)

N/A :         Non-Automatic?????? <nope, Normally Aspirated...Same as Non
Turbo>

NT:           Non-Turbo? <you got it>

S/3ks:    Stealth/3000's    for Dodge Stealths or Mitsubishi 3000gt's
3/S:             same thing as previous: 3000gt's and Dodge Stealths

DSM: <Diamond Star/Mitsubishi...for the emblems on our hoods>

OBDI and OBDII:  <hmmm...it's for the emissions standards but I don't know
what the OBD stands for>

AFAIK: <As Far As I Know>

DSBC: <Dual Solenoid Boost Controller>

AWD:  All Wheel Drive/4-wheel drive <got it again>

Thank you for your help and patience for us new guys.    I am sure
eventually I will figure these terms out but do we want to leave it up to
new guys to come up to speed on their own or give them a little turbo boost
when they join with maybe a faq or two?     Just some thoughts.    Bob

Do not bet on your warranty provider to honor the extended warranty. Most
independent extended warranty companies went out of business or do not honor
expensive claims. The fine print usually gives them some excuses to do so.
can you provide receipts for regular servicing of the tranny?)

Sorry, but I gotta quibble with one of your answers:

DSM - Diamond Star Motors, which is what the plant manufacturing the
Eclipse/Talon/Laser used to be called.  It's commonly used to refer to
those cars.

OBDII
on board diagnostics 2nd generation , as ordered by CARB, all 96 and later
cars must have elaborate diagnostic capabilities built in to the ECU
(electronic control unit, engine computer)
the computer would diagnose any intermittent or continuous  malfunction in
the engine that would effect emissions and keep the code for retrieval at
the service point.

early OBDII systems were overly sensitive, making engine alterations
impossible.

OBDIII may be the big brother, with a road version of a black box and direct
cellular communications with goverment agencies. your emission or speed
violations can be detected instanteneously as well as your location and
heading. two way comunications can allow agencies to disable your vehicle.

sound like a nightmare but the technology and infrastructure is here and
available right now. It is justy a matter of public acceptance for these
type of controls to be implemented.

who would have guessed one day our speeds will be tracked by aircraft,
radars and lasers? who would have guessed one day our cars will be inspected
for any modifications?

Subject: Team3S: Fuel pressure problems

Seems as though I have a fuel presure problem. When the tank gets down below
5 gallons the car is hard to start, and acts as though it isn't getting
enough fuel. The rpms are VERY low (<500) and the car stalls if I just sit
at idle for a few seconds. When I fill up the tank the rps and the idle goes
back to normal. Is this the fuel pump? a computer problem? This started just
after I got the air conditioning fixed three weeks ago. I have no idea how
it might be related.

Also when I came into work this morning, I was sitting at a stop light and
the engine just stalled. When I started it up again (and pulled off the
road) it ran very roughly (like one cylinder wasn't firing) and the check
engine light stayed on. Oil pressure was good, and a causual inspection
showed all the hoses and wires were connected and nothing leaking out the
bottom. After sitting for a minute I turned on the ignition, all the lights
went out so I tried to start the car again and it came right up. Sounded
normal and smooth, so I went to work.

Any ideas on what the heck is going on??? Thanks

Rob (one confused driver)

Subject: Team3S: Tranny swap-out question

Anyone have any experience with swapping out for a different tranny in the
FWD versions of our cars?  I don't mean just replacing with another OEM,
but putting something "different" in.

(For those keeping track, I'm the one who reported the car dropping out of
fifth gear last week.  Heeding the advice of Matt J. and others, it's
parked in the garage right waiting for me to throw it up on jackstands
this weekend to inspect that 5th gear shaft nut thingy...  Sadly, I found
a piece of cast aluminum in my driveway which bears an unfortunate
resemblance to part of a tranny casing.  :(  So, I'm not too optimistic
about what I'll find.  Hence my interest in any discussion of alternatives
when I have to get one installed.)

One of you mentioned (Vineet, maybe?) that these trannies were "the same"
as those on the DSM cars.  Is that "the same" as in "identical and
interchangeable"?  Or as in "similar design"?

Thanks.

I just happen to have a fire-breathing 1967 302 Ford V8 with Hooker
headers, automatic tranny, shifter kit, Hurst shifter,  and a 9-in. Ford
rear end, all out of a drag racer.
Oughta drop right in there. Might even make yer car run with a VR4.
It comes with an attached 1967 Mustang body, making transport easier.

By the diagrams in the service manuals, they look at least similar in
design.  I wouldn't doubt that Mitsubishi/Dodge used the tranny from the DSM
cars in order to save costs on the FWD 3/S platform.  If you can find a part
number or model number or something on your tranny we might be able to match
it up with the tranny code from the DSMs in the Tranny Rebuild manual.
That's not my area of expertise, but I'm sure someone knows for sure or can
find out.

the only hope I see is V6 manual DSM or mitsu applications.
if there is a manual diamante, you have a chance.
note that late DSM cars come with chrysler engines with NVG trannies. they
are not compatible with mitsu.
If yours were an auto, you would have hope.

hey, dont worry, I am sure the 5sp trannies are plentiful and affordable at
the junkyards.
