Subject: Team3S: WIS:  I have some questions, if you could be
so kind...

I am seriously considering getting the Water Injection System to
test on my car, but unfortunately, I came into this discussion (and the
list) a bit late. Where can I get this kit (I am assuming spearco, but what
is the contact info?),

The Spearco system can be purchased from Spearco directly.  Their
web address is www.spearcointercoolers.com
<http://www.spearcointercoolers.com>  , they have a phone number on the site
to contact them.  The ERL AquaMist system can be purchased from any ERL
dealer.  www.aquamist .com has the dealer listings on the site.

is it a specific kit for our car or is it universal/something we
have to cutom fit? Is the installation pretty straightforward, any pointers?

Neither will be specific for our cars, and will require a little bit
of fabrication.  The biggest problem with the Spearco kit was installing the
water tank.  Roger may have more info about installing the ERL system.  You
can check out my Spearco install at
www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Boulevard/1027
<http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Boulevard/1027> .

I am planning to take my car to the weekly test and tune sessions,
to try and work out whatever minor bugs I might have before the up coming
event (August 14-15th), and I am hoping I can have the kit installed to tune
the car.

Also, one of the WIS users mentioned installing a better pump, where
would I go about getting that?

That would be me.  I had the pump that came with my kit fail, so I
replace it with a fuel pump instead of a washer pump.  One of the other list
members brought up the point about the possibility of corrosion causing the
pump to fail, so I have inadvertantly volunteered to test the idea.  :-)  So
far so good, but you might want to hold off on the idea until I have used it
a little more.

Good luck, and if you run into questions don't be afraid to ask.

You can call Spearco directly at (818) 901-7851.  There are also a couple
shops that sell the kits.  I can't recall them at the moment, although if
you do a web search for it you'll find it.  Cost direct from Spearco is
$160.  You need the Turbo kit.  It is a universal kit, and mine came with
not enough plugs to fill all the holes in the water container.  :-(  So
you'll need to take the other plugs to the hardware store and match up a set
to completely seal the box if your kit is short.

For installation, I bought a Black Panther Predator battery
(http://www.blackpanther.com) through Jegs (http://www.jegs.com), set it on
its "back" so the terminals point towards the engine and then placed the
water injection tank and associated hardware next to the strut tower on the
battery tray.  I had to drill a hole in the battery tray to allow the lower
water fitting to pass through the tray on its way to the pump.  I mounted
the pump to the lower edge of the tank towards the passenger compartment and
mounted the pressure actuator switch on the top front of the tank towards
the air filter.  Connect a manifold pressure line to the pressure switch,
drill two 3/8" holes in the Y-pipe and screw in the water injection barbs
(one contains the middle-sized injection sprayer, and the other is just an
empty barb used to pressurize the tank to match the pressure in the Y-pipe
to make it easier for the pump to do its job).  Run the hoses and power to
the switch/pump and you are set.

There's not much to tweak on it, other than the actuation pressure.  Set it
for 6-8 psi as the turn-on point and you shouldn't have a problem.  Keep the
hoses as short as possible.  With mine mounted on the battery tray, there is
only about 16 inches of hose total, so mine works very well.  It takes about
a whole tank of water every other tank of gas, more during drag racing or
autocrossing.

I know John had some trouble with it flooding out during autocrossing, but I
ran this last weekend with the water injection enabled and the power was
consistent with no engine stumbling around hard corners or after getting off
the gas.  I think short hose runs are very important in the Spearco setup,
probably not as much a factor with the ERL setup since their pump and nozzle
setup is superior.

> Also, one of the WIS users mentioned installing a better pump,
> where would I go about getting that?

Probably not required if you keep your hoses short.  John Basol (the guy who
recommended the larger pump) had his mounted in the lower front edge of the
front spoiler.  I think the pump doesn't really like pumping the water that
far uphill in a relatively small diameter hose.  With it on the battery tray
it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue.  Make sure you clean out the tank
and hoses real good before you start sealing it up.  I can take some
pictures of the final install if anyone is interested.

This is only my second post here, I hope it's not off topic.

I have a '92 VR4 with less than 30K miles on it and an extended warranty
from First Extended Service Corporation. The timing belt tensioner has
apparently gone bad damaging the timing belt. The total repair is $750
including a new timing belt. The timing belt IS covered by the warranty,
but the dealer says the non-covered tensioner caused the damage so I need
to pay for it. The dealer ALSO wants close to $800 bucks to fix the wind
noise problem with the driverside window. Jeeze.

The factory warranty covers the tensioner. I thought I was extending the
factory warranty when I forked over $2,240 for the extendo.

Nope. Does anyone have experience with tensioners failing on the VR4? Does
anyone know of a good VR4 mechanic in Santa Monica?

Hello Folks,

Mark Hindelang on the starnet list is trying to get a group purchase of
APEX-i Super AVC-R units together.  So far, he isn't having a great deal
of response, but I think this is due to the fact that he is targeting the
wrong audience.
I have forwarded the latest of his emails here.

All questions should be addressed to:

Just reminder.  Im really pushing this because I want the group to
benefit
from what I am trying to do.  This is really a once in a life time
opportunity to get the newest model, state of the art technology of
boost controllers at a price that would make other dealers shit their
pants.  I guarantee you tell them the price you are getting from
me (assumed we get together 10 people and actually coordinate this
correctly) they will start crying over the phone because they would
go out of business to sell the unit at the price that we can get
it for.

Please let me know who are interested .. So far there are 3 people
that have responded , only 1 has put down the money!  Still awaiting
on the other 2 for serious commitment.  I was told that there were
60 units entering the country! 60 Units! and the guy im working with
is getting 20 of them.  That is crazy.  I also think i should say
that I am not the middle man.  I am making no profit.  The guy just
told me if I would coordinate it, he would grant it if it was valid.
So im just doing the work to get us the great deal.

Please see the unit at :
http://www.apexi-usa.com/adrevolution.htm

see the description of what the unit is at :
http://www.apexi-usa.com/superavcr2.htm

(Please note that the description page does not have the new picture
on it. It still has the old unit model, they havn't changed it yet,
cuz the product in the USA is not official yet.  That is why we
have the advantage, we can get it before anyone else does, at an
awesome, tear jerking price.   Also note that the AFC (Air Flow Convertor)
looks EXACTLY the same as the AVCR, they are integrated looking units.
I personally have (will have avcr soon) both units for the integrated
look, and love Apexi. If anyone is interested in the AFC also, I
can also light you on fire with that price as well.  You will not
believe the price we can get on that!  Its crazy.  The AVC-R is an
expensive unit as it is, being what it is, but we can get a sweet
deal on it.  But the AFC is sweet as hell to.  I told the guy that
i was working with that i didn't need one, didn't have the application
for one, and wasn't going to use it anyway, but after he gave me
the price, i couldn't afford not to get it!)

LET ME KNOW guys.  We can get this thing rollin.  Roll'n Roll'n Roll'n

Well, the S-AVC-R is one of the best boost controller on the market but you
know that there is a new line from Apexi with the large screen devices. The
S-AFC is already available and the S-AVC-R also soon. If it is the new one
then price will be badly high as a lot of turbo guys want them and they all
pay prices above $500 (and no one does for a EBC)

But I'd take at least one of the older ones for a price around $300 - $350
as it is mountable somewhere and the new one is tough to find an appropriate
place for. I'd even say it is almost impossible to find a place for it,
especially in our cars. And hey, it has a nice display and you want to show
it to the girlies , hehe.

IMHO, he has to give us a price for 10, 15, 20 people and then let us
EXACTLY know when thy will be available. I'd mabye take one if a customer is
interested :) but not for me.

I caved. The dealer said that even though I had less than 30K miles the
timing belt needed replacing as part of the 5yr/60K service. Luckily he
said the engine never jumped time. My warranty (if you can call it that) is
up in two weeks, so it's time to start doing mods.

Whats a good first step ($1,000 range) "92 VR4 speed mod for a novice?

ps. First Extended Service Corporation was the underwriter on the warranty.
VERY unhelpful, very much a pain in the ass. Steer clear and nail the gas

Boost controller, K&N FIPK, good boost gauge (-30 in/hg vacuum to +25 psi,
or so).  Steer clear of the HKS EVC IV.  I've heard that the Blitz DSBC,
APEXi AVC-R, and Greddy Profec-A are good.  If you go with a manual
controller, you'll save a lot of money.  For a manual controller get a
Hallman (http://www.hallmanboostcontroller.com) for about $90, and then you
could get a cat-back exhaust.

K&N   - $150
Gauge -  $50
AVC-R - $550
        ----
Total:  $750

With the $250 left over you could get a decent radar detector so the cops
don't nail you now that you are making over 400 HP...

Had a current model Trans Am attempt to race me from a stoplight this
morning.  He started the day off with a frown on his face.  :-)

Matt,

Why do you say to steer clear of the EVC IV?  I'm quite happy with mine,
even though I have not had it long.  I have not heard bad things about the
unit.  Also, I have been unable to find a "good" boost guage for only $50,
most are $140-$200 that I could find.  Curious as to if you have better info
than me.

Subject: Team3S: Buying a 92 DS RT/TT. Need some QUICK help. Thanks!

Well guys (and gals) guess what!

Aww you cheated and looked at the subject :( I'm buying a Dodge Stealth
RT/TT (92) tomorrow (if everything works out, and it should! My wife works
at the bank :) Now I will truly be able to participate on the 3/S lists, and
not just talk about things that are in some way related to my other cars,
AWD Talon's.

I already made the manual CD for the 3/S cars, so this was an obvious step
:). I need to know some things really quickly, so if you have answers or
ideas, please EMAIL ME DIRECTLY at billi_gates@hotmail.com or
eagletek@hotmail.com .

Here are the things I would like to know or get tips on.

1: Front end looks to be repainted, but a VERY clean job, and almost
impossible to tell. ORIGINAL panel stickers are in place, as well as the
sticker on the actual bumper core support. So I assume whatever happened to
it was not major. No large qty's of bondo are apparent, rad supports look
original. Rest of the exterior is immaculate (front is too, just feel the
tape strip along the fender top when you open the compartment).

2: Engine compartment is quite clean, but don't know the engine history.
Transmission looks to be MUCH cleaner than the rest of the engine (shiny),
so I assume that it has been replaced somewhat recently.

3: Shifting to all gears is quite smooth (not like my friends Galant VR4,
which has the same crappy DSM AWD tranny). However, shifting into first or
even second (sometimes), while rolling at about 5mph causes a "slight grind"
(from neutral... gear to gear shifts seem fine). It goes into gear, but I'm
not sure why this would happen. The clutch (which seems good) is depressed
all the way when this happens. The car feels quite strong overall. Not as
cumbersome as I half-expected.

4: Undercarriage looks clean, but has a little oil spray around the tcase
yoke. Not nearly as bad as my recalled Talons tcase, but still there. No
other oil leaks are apparent. Turbos look stock.

5: Interior: looks kinda old. Leather is cracking (not ripped), overall
kinda dirty. It's a light tan/off-white color and black mostly. Seats work,
AC works, no CE light, don't hear a difference when switching from TOUR to
SPORT exhaust. Can't find the TOUR/SPORT suspension switch (WHERE IS IT :).
It was stuck on tour when I test drove it, and it felt pretty firm. Strange
circular crack right under the glove compartment. Where would I get newer
seats for this otherwise beautiful car? Are 2g Eclipse/Talon seats the same?
They LOOK the same in my head :)

Misc: Steering wheel has a tiny amount (noticeable though) of play in it
when turning left and right... common?
One (stock) exhaust tip (shroud?) is missing. Looks goofy :). Replaceable?
Does this wing move around at speeds as well?
No sun roof, can one be installed? (heard there is an extra brace on OEM
sunroofed cars).
Wheels are nice, but not nice at the same time, They are BBS "wire" looking
wheels, 17x7?'s.
It's got THESE WHEELS on it
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/DisplayWheelOnCars.jsp?cImageNumber=3

They look nice, but leaves me wondering. What's a good set of wheels for
this car, and that would possibly fit my talon? Is that asking too much? I
currently have 3000gt SL wheels on my talon with no fitment problems, but
these would be 17" or more.

The car is selling for an unbelievable (to me) 7995$, and has 86k miles on
it. Drives and looks great. AWESOME metallic blue color, seems the same
paint as the Viper's that come in blue, and that dodge pace truck that has
racing stripes on it. Anyone have this type of car? Have pics or a home
page? The TMO datalogger will work with this year car!!! yay! Shouldn't this
car be above 10K$? It was JUST traded in, and the salesperson doesn't know
squat about it.

I know this is a long post, but thanks for reading this far! Now I will be
able to pester yall with newbie questions :). Hopefully I will be able to
contribute to the list in a short time :) Please remember to flood my email
directly, as I get the digest version of this list, and won't be able to see
your responses BEFORE I buy the car sometime tomorrow. Thanks again.

Hello Vineet!

I am a newbie to the list (finally mailed you the $35 yesterday for the CD
by the way)
and just bought a used '94 3000gt SL so I can answer only some questions:

I had my front bumper repainted because  they have no protection and are
easily "dinged" (for lack of a better word): $500 to do mine (it had a
scratch on it and
I understand they used a slight amount of bondo possibly to fill a few
"fissures" (for lack of
a better word and lack of spelling).  The car looks almost immaculate on
the outside:
I had my engine and frame checked and would recommend the same for you,
especially
if that is a unique paint job and because of the questionable low price (it
MAY have been
in a wreck).   Look all UNDER the car and have the frame checked on a
machine.

2ndly, my seats are cracked and if you live in Houston, TX  I know the
place that a dealer
uses here: $500 to do the 2 leather front seats and they boast that the
leather is higher grade
than the original: I wrote the grade down and can look it up tonight when I
get home if you want.
I believe they quoted me $1200 for the entire car.

I looked into the sunroof too because I really wanted one but when they
told me there was only
one power sunroof that would work well (and not seem too "cheap" like the
manual ones, "as
these are nice cars") I decided I could open the windows instead.  I'll
re-do the seats first.
I wish I had that info with me and can look it up too, but I believe the
price was $900.   It may
be worth it to you.

My TOUR/SPORT button is just to the right of the steering wheel.  It is
hard for me to tell the
difference in handling when going over bumps, I haven't tried to notice the
difference on
cornering.   Hope that helps.

Probably just put in some fresh tranny fluid.  I have the Mobil synthetic in
mine, and it works fine although others have complained about it.
Synchroshift or Redline work well in these trannies also.

The actuator for the sport mode of the exhaust is probably bad.  If you look
under the car on the driver's side muffler there is a valve on the piping
that moves a little gate to switch exhaust modes.  I my old '94 VR4 the
cable linkage just came off there.  Check it out, it shouldn't be too hard
to fix if it is something simple.  If the actuator motor is screwed, just
wire the gate in the Sport position.  It isn't that much louder than the
Tour position and you get a little more power in the upper RPMs.  Suspension
switch is called "ECS" and the switch is located on the dash near where the
wiper control is.  Lower button, under the rear defroster button (if I
remember right).

> Misc: Steering wheel has a tiny amount (noticeable though) of play in it

There is more play than in a DSM car, or rather the steering is less
sensitive near the centered position.

> One (stock) exhaust tip (shroud?) is missing. Looks goofy :). Replaceable?

If the bracket that holds it is gone, then you are SOL.  Rear exhaust system
would need to be replaced.  Just throw on an aftermarket cat-back system (I
like the Borla - sounds tough!).  You won't miss the "tunable exhaust".

> Does this wing move around at speeds as well?

Not on the Stealth, only on VR4's through '95.

Not recommended, but probably do-able.

Wheels should be 17x8 or 18x8.  I don't know the offset offhand.

Mobil 1 synthetic is a GL-5 rated fluid and will cause problems with our
synchros (I think it was mentioned in the past to be corrosive to the coating on
the synchros).  Definately use a GL-4 fluid in the TT tranny.

Say,  does anyone know if it is it OK to use the Mobil 1 synthetic
in my 3000gt SL  (I know it is a different transmission than the
VR 4 turbo)??  I am sure the shop manual won't talk about synthetic oils.
I was thinking of switching to a synthetic and I use Mobil 1 in my turbo
Regal (I haven't had to have any transmission work on it but it is also
an automatic).

Hello folks,

Again, I am just a messenger, so don't ask me anything, as I don't know
anything. :)

I hope this answers some questions, and I hope things work out!

( Could someone please see that this message is relayed to the other
interested lists, such as the 3S Team list, i don't have their email!)

Ok, I havn't called my contact as he is out of his office today, but I
am giving you the most recent (until i call him tomorrow) information
on the purchase of the units.  He definitely has them coming in,
he just needs to know how many to put aside, because he said once
people find that he has them, they are going to swamp his store.
So he told me he would help me out by not advertising that he has
them for a couple more days, so that gives me not a lot of time to
get 10 (9 commited, since i already have on order from him) serious
buyers.  Afterwards he will sell what he has left. but i tell you
what guys, 1 thing is when this thing hits, backorder is going to
be hell , so they say. and second , get it now, you are one of a
very select few in the country that has it.  and very possible some
of the other dealers may have the same problem.  i can't speak for
them because i honestly don't know.

Current information on receive time is about 3 more weeks, possible
less.(given there are no problems with Apexi sending him his units.
Retailed price that i have called around claiming to give the best
discounts available, and even ontop of that given 'smokn deals' was
estimates from 500-589$..  my contact told me we can coordinate together
and give it to us for $450.   How is that?  Like I said I am not
making a profit from any of this, I just want to help you guys out,
and help my contact get his business as he has helped me out on
so many parts.  So again, I am sure you can pay by check or credit
card, etc.  I think credit card over the phone would be easier as
it would guarantee direct transfer of credit, safe, and you get the
unit even quicker!  upon getting a list of everyone that DEFINITELY
wants to do it, i will ask to create a list of names, and phone numbers
to contact you so i can voice confirm it very briefly, and then pass
the order to my contact, and off we go.

I have been asked this over and over, and i don't understand why
people are not getting the links, but i will post it again. hopefully
the last time.

Pictures of the unit. ( THE AFC and the AVC-R look EXACTLY THE SAME)
Also since the arrival of the US product is not official yet, Apex'i
hasnt updated their new picture on the description. But read it anyway.
It is all there, and the features are more than to describe. These
two products together give you the most Integrated Apexi look , and
performance.  These things are really amazing!  Good luck! Lets get
going on this!!
