Subject: Team3S: GAB shocks

I finally got my suspension installed [ 550/350 --- GAB struts --- Camber/caster plate ],
preliminary tests
indicate this is going to be a serious amount of fun. Not as harsh as I expected even at the harder
shock settings, however I do live in the golden getto area of California so smooth roads are the
norm.

Two questions ?? on  the rear GABs the piston of the shock is substantially smaller than the stock
strut. On the stock setup the front and rear pistons are the same size,
the GABs
are the same as the stock in front and quite a bit smaller in the rear.
Anybody know
                          if this is correct.

On the front Ground Control perch setup I have a 1 1/2" drop with the
collars set all
the way to the top. My original estimate of a middle setting resulted in a
trapped low
profile hydraulic jack, I had to put a two by six under the tires to get
recover my jack.
Fender gap disappeared along with the ability of the wheel to move up into
the fender.
I would expect to be able to  leave the ride height stock if I wished but
that is not
possible with my current setup --- anybody with similar problems.

There seems not to be any of us ever heard of that and therefore I'd not say
that this is normal. Are you sure that you are hearing the turbo(s) doing this
??

Some turbine noise on spool up or spool down is to be expected, but it
certainly should not be very loud.  I wouldn't expect it to always be
noticeable depending upon other noises from the road, exhaust and so on.

I could hear some turbine noise on both the stock turbos and my reasonably
fresh 15Gs, but it isn't the sort of noise that would raise concern.

I'd check for leaks in the intake and exhaust system first if there is
reason to believe the noise you are hearing is abnormal.  If it is turbine
whine from passing air, it likely isn't anything to be concerned over.  If
it is whining from the bearings it could be an early warning sign of
failure.  Usually this comes from inadequate lubrication or excess stress
from abuse (overboosting beyond what the turbos can handle, improper
cooldown etc.).

If you start to hear grinding the prognosis is probably self explanatory.

is it a real high wine???? Gotta Love those warranties!! New Motor, New
Tranny, New Differential........... Not a penny from my wallet either...

After installing my GAB struts and other misc. suspension pieces the tour/sport
light on the instrument cluster is flashing. It has correctly determined there is a
problem with the system. How do I disable the ECS ?? I don't see a dedicated
fuse and pulling the lights is a PITA.

You pretty much either have to yank the bulb or place some sort of covering
over that portion of the instrument panel.  High quality adhesive backed
vinyl will do the trick and can be made to look okay.

I had problems in the Phoenix heat keeping anything with
adhesive...uh...adhering.  It would eventually just fall off.  I thought
this blinking light would irritate the hell out of me but I came to not even
notice it.  It just sits there and blinks.

If you come up with a more elegant solution please let us know.

Regards,

Barry

Thanks for the input --- I installed the parts over the weekend, did a cursory alignment
[ measured the toe and set the camber with my magnetic camber gage ] and went for a
test drive, yikes -- fun stuff. I read in a racing post of yours that you set the camber at
- - 3 degrees. Do you drive on the street with 3 degrees or is that a track setting. I set mine
1 1/2 for now and will be getting a full alignment in a day or so and would like to know what
recommend for aggressive street driving and some track time.

So, did I get this right, the nut issue is specific to the N/T cars and do
not apply to TT??
