Reds
Folks...
Rich and I were just talking about lunch. I see a
empty spot in my calendar
next Wednesday (the 21st) and feel compelled to
fill it in. Any chance any
of you can meet at Big Reds around 11:45am?
Sankar...I'd love to see how you're sitting with the RSR
springs.
Jay...of course, we'd all love to take a peek at the only Viper in
the lot
Rommel...your NSX would look great next to a Viper
Of course,
if this lovely weather sticks around, Beastie will be on the road
as
well.
Looking forward...Chris

go for
it. it is simple and does not involve removal of the cams.
just make sure you
prime the new lash adjusters, in light oil or diesel
fuel, by submerging them
in and pumping several times between fingers.
keep us posted how it works
out!

I think
the biggest gain would come from being able to use a test pipe and
leaded
race fuel at the track and being able to crank up the boost then.
That's the
reason I'm going to do it... :-)

Been
following this track, along with looking over at John Adams Garage (as my
adjusters are just tick, tick, ticking away). I can go with the light
oiling to prime/fill the adjuster, but doing it with diesel fuel just doesn't
sound right. Ok, I know you'll say its such a minute amount (a couple of
ounces at the most), but it goes against all conventions that I've learned since
working on cars.
Group thoughts???????????

RE: Team3S: Gutting precats
Murat...
No particular performance
gain with a stock turbo/fuel system. Gain is
obtained with larger turbos and
increased fuel delivery, WHEN coupled with a
COMPLETE open system (no
precats, downpipe, test pipe, open exhaust). Even
then, one could argue that
the other factors (larger turbos, more fuel) are
what REALLY makes the
difference (HP) not the intake or exhaust...they just
provide
flow.
BTW...I plan on dropping my exhaust the next time I hit the 1/4
mile.
Downpipe only...has anyone tried that? With what
results?
Looking forward...Chris

Subject: Team3S:
Getrag Synchro ORDER CALL!
We Claim Another Partial Victory!
The
Synchro Part Availability window has opened for the 3rd time.
Though I still
try to carry the flag for making parts available
cheaply for ALL, the Powers
that Be do what they will. However,
after many more calls and
wranglings, having lost one Getrag contact
but picking up 2 more, I
have been able to get Getrag to agree to
release me some parts again!
Here is an update on what is happening:
To summarize, the trans
rebuilding
business has been sold to a company in the USA after talks b/n
Mitsu,
Getrag and the Rebuilder. That co. is "training up" to do the
rebuilds.
Mitsu will be sending to THEM for rebuilds for warranty work
from
here on out, NOT to Getrag.
I DO NOT KNOW if the new company will
sell any parts; it sounds
as though they may not, but just will be sending
rebuilt UNITS out.
On the other hand, MAYBE parts will be available--I do not
know
so don't ask :) Getrag has some parts
supply, but once that supply
is used up it is up in the air as to where/how
parts will be made,
the rebuilders apparently aren't casting new
gears/machining new parts.
They may have to contract with some
fabricator/parts manu-
facturer, or maybe Getrag will cast some more,
Getrag/I don't KNOW.
Some or all of the stock apparently is slated to go to
the new
rebuilder;
so I am TRYING to sneak these parts out while the
window is open
at Getrag.
SO: IF anybody buys synchros/gears
from me, do not get
mad at me if they become commonly available! Nor
get mad at
me if they disappear someday! My contacts (as before)
indicate
that Getrag is not getting into retail parts sales, and he asked
me
to stock some extras to sell for the occasional person who comes
along
so they won't get bothered every month. IF I do this, it will be
a
small
number and they will be more expensive. I am not a
business,
and this IS alot of labor, even if it is labor of love
;)
Remember, there WILL be a new company rebuilding the
transmissions;
they WILL be able to supply you with a new trans if you need
one.
This is good news, it provides stability into the future!
These
synchros/
gears I can get are for "do-it-YOURSELFERS" or people
who
_ALREADY_ UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE BUYING,
and know WHO they would go
to IF they weren't rebuilding it THEMSELVES.
I do NOT have any diagrams, ANY
more advice than what is contained
in this letter; thus, I will answer
ORDERS, not questions. I ask your
indulgence
on this--last time I
answered DOZENS of Q. for months, TRIED to gather
all the $ together from
about 35+ people; it took MONTHS to get it all
done
and those who were
kindly fast as I requested ended up waiting months
for
people who couldn't
decide, didn't understand/have money, changed minds
etc.
As a courtesy to
ALL, this will N O T happen again! I
don't
blame anybody, I am happy to do this, but if you don't
understand
what you are buying or don't have the money NOW,
then this
simply is NOT for you. This is _ONLY_ TT CARS!
Again, I am trying
to maintain my sanity this time, AND do right by
those
who place
orders.
Thanks All! (Whew!)
IF anybody wants to order synchro
sets + gears (it is actually better
to replace the gear which grinds going
into it also, new info)
EMAIL REPLY TO ME PERSONALLY with
info:
1) Your REAL FULL NAME, address, phone #, and email
address
2) year/make car,/speeds in your TWIN TURBO's trans (5 or
6)
3) which you want:
a) 1-2 synchro assembly (fixes
1-->2 upshift grind)
b) 3-4 synchro assembly
c)
5-Reverse synchro assembly (if 5 speed; almost nobody ever has
problems
here!)
d) 5-6 synchro assembly (if 6 speed; almost nobody ever has
probem
here!)
e) 2nd gear (would help fix upshift to 2nd grind, WITH
1-2 assy above)
e) 3rd gear (would help fix upshift to 3rd grind, WITH
3-4 assy above)
f) 4th gear (would help fix upshift to 4th grind, WITH
3-4 assy above)
g) MAYBE can get output shaft from trans, would NEED to
tell
me large or small shaft, do NOT ASK ME WHICH YOU
HAVE--see above re:
understanding what you are buying!
NOTES:
4) The cost for one of
each lettered item above should be
approximately $125 with shipping, shaft
may be more. I do NOT
yet KNOW prices; plan based on that figure
now. Should have update
7/21/99 when I contact Getrag again with
figures of how many
to get of each, because ALL will have written me by
then.
5) I cannot get _ANY_ other parts, nor for _ANY_ other
car
type (Supras etc). For bearings etc, look
elsewhere (NYMaxx,
Kormex, etc)
I will NOT now be
answering ANY letters about "if I get these, then
where
do I get this and
this and this". I and others have been HAPPY to
answer these
before;
I WILL do so again in the FUTURE, after this order is
DONE.
6) If your car is still under warranty, you may not need
these.
The more warranty time left, the LESS you need
these.
7) Do not send money yet, JUST send me above list of what you
WILL
order
and pay for, knowing you will need to send me moneyorder or
cashier's
check
soon, once all is confirmed and finalized.
I will get
final prices next week, then will figure out cost to each
person.
This
will be just about my cost with shipping, I may be able to "eat
at
McDonald's" with the difference; I am NOT doing this for money
(GEEEEZ
no!)
I think this should go through well and without a hitch IF
all
cooperate.
I can NOT guarantee I WILL get the parts, it is in progress
and they
said they will but until they are in my hands...if it doesn't
for
whatever
reason, all $ will be returned, naturally. My
reputation, and my
having done this before twice for many, is all the
guarantee I can
give you of my end of things; if that's not enough, 'this is
not for
you' :)
I've tried to answer all Q/issues to best of my ability;
some may be
redundant or obvious but (having done this before) these are all
things
that came up before, so I wrote all this stuff...
These ARE
great cars! I'm doing my best to "keep 'em flying"!
(CHEAPLY when
possible :)
Sincerely, and with tired typing fingers and high phone
bills,
Jack Tertadian

If the big HKS racing wastegate isn't big
enough, I wonder what turbos
you're gonna install :)) As you are using one
WG on each turbo the HKS
thing should be fine. And for even bigger ones, try
to look for Supra
things as their big single turbo upgrade uses a damn big
Wastegate.

If you are the guy I forwarded some
repair procedures to a couple weeks ago
(for retightening the 5th gear end
nut and restaking it), I would not* drive
this car until it is fixed.
You are certainly on borrowed time. If you
continue, it'll put a nice
hole in the end case of the tranny and shred the
gears on the output
shaft. The repair bill will quickly go from almost free
to replacing
the whole tranny in no time (ouch). If you follow the
procedures I
posted to the List a week or two ago, the cost of repair will
be only a tube
of gasket sealer and a replacement nut from Mitsubishi and an
hour or two of
your time (and probably the cost of a socket to fit the nut
and a long socket
wrench to put enough torque on the nut).
Tranny problems never* get
better, they only get much worse (and quickly
when they do)!

Good to hear from Jack, that
