THeir prices are terrible.  They want something like $1600 for a set of
refurbished chrome wheels, without rubber and withdout center caps or
lugs!

Try out Arrow Tire and Wheel in Upland, CA.
I bought a set of VR-4 wheels (1993) for $800, completely rechromed!

Talk to Brian and tell him you got the number from Dennis (off the
internet).

I think your dealer is pumping you for money.
The heat load placed on your engine WITHOUT turbos is less than the turbo
cars, yet the turbo cars' wires don't fail like that!
I use, and probably will FOREVER use, the STOCK wires which have never
given me any problem.  I did replace them once at around 40,000 miles because
I was in there anyway and seemed like a maintenance item to do...but there was
no effect.  They tested fine, just a little more resistance than the new ones.
I wonder why your car REALLY is having a problem...

Some have complained Magnecores sometimes pop off  the coils (stockers never do).
I have seen an article in Circle Track Mag about wires and whether high, low, or NO
resistance makes any hp--the final result was that it did not matter what the resistance

of the wire is.  This was on a dyno with many brands (kept anonymous to protect the
innocent and so as to maintain the purity of the idea behind the article)...the only one

that LOST hp was Nology wires!  Article didn't name them, but noted they were the
only wires requiring a special plug and to ground the outside of the wire, so their ID
could be sleuthed out of the article.  I'm not saying Magnecores are bad, they seem
popular and are likely great wires; but as to better than stock...?  I am unconvinced...

Another good tech question!

The stock ones were very hard and looked bad after about 50k. As the stock ones
where close to the same price (in Switzerland) as the Magnecores it was an easy
decision for me.

But you are right, the Magnecores are known to pop off the coils as the boot
connector is pretty soft metal inside. This was the cause for my "Gremlins" I
once had in my car. But also a stock one got loose two years ago, but as we
know, this is an easy fix :) Just use some small pliers.

No, I can't say either if the Magnecores are better than the stock ones.

Roger

No

They can and you're getting detonation above 14-15psi. You have to cool down
the chamber temperatures by dumping fuel (not really good), better
intercooling, bigger turbos (better efficiency) or injecting water.

Subject: Team3S: Spark Plug Question

Ok I am gonna change my spark plugs, but I am curious what is the BEST gap
size.  I have a boost controller, exhaust, air intake and blow off valve. I
was curious if anyone ever did any testing of which gap is best.  Any info
appreciated.
Thanks

Subject: RE: Team3S: Road Course Update - Watkins Glen

<<  Another one of those long posts. Went to The Glen for the second time on
June 31st and July 1st.  >>

Thanks for spending the time to provide the great descriptions!  Maybe it
will get more of us out there on the track!

<<  RP01 17x9 shod with 255/45/17 G-Force rubber, tire pressures are 36 front
and 33 rear (cold)  >>

Your tire pressure seems a little low compared to ours - We run 42 front 38
rear with Yokohama A032R's.  You're not getting any rollover in the front or
rear?  Where is it scrubbing?  Perhaps your sidewalls are stiffer than ours
or something...

<<  , big red brembo/porsche front calipers with pagid orange pads  >>

Where did you get the Pagid Orange pads from?  A Porsche dealer?  And how are
the Simpson harnesses?  How did you do the install on those?  Was it
relatively simple?

<<  Front straight tops out 3rd gear at 120 into a diving 90 degree right
hander. >>

You didn't need to go to 4th for that speed, or do you just run out of track
before having to turn?  I start reaching for 4 once I get to about 100...
3rd or 4th regardless, it seems to me the stock turbos run out of steam at
high rpm and can't hold anything over 12-12.5 psi.

<<  Turn 4 brings you onto the back straight were I get to about 140+ just
prior to the inner loop or sometimes refereed to as the "bus stop". HEAVY
braking zone again.  >>

Wow, this is a fast track.  120-125 was the most we could squeak out of ours
before turning at the end of the front straight at TWS.  No wonder you've
been going through brakes.

<<  Also installed some fresh air ducts to the air filter area to try and get
some fresher air up there.  >>

Did you notice any difference in the car because of this mod?

<<  Every instructor has a different opinion of how to drive this track and
you get a new instructor every day. So every day you almost have to start
over to accommodate the new instructor. Some like earlier apexes, some want
later.
Its all part of the "learning" experience, but can be somewhat frustrating at
times.  >>

Yeah, this is a big pain, when you get a new instructor and he tells you
something completely different.  And especially if he has no AWD experience.
We try to keep the same instructors for the weekend, that way we can gauge
our progress better.

<<  Goals this year will be 135 in front straight and 170+ in long pond
straight. >>

WOW!  What do you think the top end is?  We're just curious because Mike's
car is modified about the same as yours power-wise, and he hasn't driven it
past 140(indicated) - It still had power left - I don't know know how much,
but the pucker factor started to kick in...

Subject: Team3S: New 17" SZ50s on (was: Severe Handling problem)

Hi folks,

If you remember, I posted to this list not too long ago.  I was
complaining about a severe handling problem with my SOHC Stealth (road
wander, excessive body roll, lack of crisp steering, etc.)

Well, I had 93 VR-4 chromies put on, along with Firehawk SZ50s at
255/40/17 (big tire).

The handling is much improved, though still not quite right.

I still get some body roll, though not as much.  I also still get a little
wander and lateral movement when hitting some bumps in the road.

My analysis: the tires weren't necessarily the problem, or contributed to
the problem a little bit.  I believe that the grip and width of the new
tires, combined with the stiffer sidewalls, is helping to alleviate
whatever problem currently exists with the car.

One thing of import:  I ahd an alignment done at NTB, and I noticed that
the caster is out of spec by 2 minutes on the left, and almost a full 1
degree on the right.
My understanding is that the caster cannot be adjusted on these cars,
right?
The fella I talkedto at NTB said that they could be adjusted, but it would
require boring out the strut mounting holes and adjusting them that way.

Here are my Q's for the day:

Should I have them adjust the caster?
How can the caster be out of spec, since it is factory set?
What else should I look for that could be causing my handling problem?

Thanks for all your help!

Regards,
   Dennis
