Team3S: Brake service
Hmmm... With all of the good advise I've seen I'm
not too sure if this idea has any
merrit (no pun intended).
Have you
thought about making a "wedge" from a good old 2"x4"? First get a piece of wood
that will fill the gap on a pair of the pistons (so they don't close up when
you move the
other 2). Then using a pair of "tongs" from a fire place you
may be able to push against
the other 2 pistons to get them to move appart.
(reverse pliers approach).
Or do what I do with the 2 piston calipers.
Leave the caliper on the car with the rotor
between the pads and use a screw
driver to push the pads back. The other pad will push
against the rotor and
not "pop out".

Check this web site out, it's OTC's Web
site. It'll help you locate a local retailer and I
think they got some
diagrams for parts.
Might be able to get a .pdf of the equipment you are
looking for before buying it. Hope it
helps!

Checked it out. There's a snap shot of the
caliper spanner and they do have pictures. You
need to search the product
catalog and they do offer pictures.

Admin Notice - Monthly Team3S Policy Statement
Let us reiterate what this
list is for: 'Technical discussions about
the Stealth & 3000GT'. Period.
'Technical' includes anything to do
with the operating systems of the
vehicle, but extends to
modifications, repairs, and replacement equipment. We
have suggested
(on the rules page, if you wish to reread it) that the test
for a
valid post to the list is 'whether or not that post is of interest
to
most of us'. Posing a question to the list about 'peripheral'
subjects
such as CD changers, radar, windshield ID kits, comments about
a
specific dealer, where to buy replacement floormats, or neon
chassis
lights should be considered 'marginally' off-topic, but still
'legal'.
But, other than answering with the address of a relevant
resource,
ensuing discussions on such topics should be done PRIVATELY, or
on
another list, because most of us don't want to hear about it.
We'd
like to thank many of you listmembers for your invaluable
feedback, in
letting us know that this is what you want the "Team3S"
list to be. We'll be
posting this Policy Statement on a monthly basis
to keep new subscribers
aware of what we all expect from one another.
Now, perhaps, we Admins can go
back to just being listmembers, as is
our preference. Just like you, we want
to "enjoy the ride".

Subject: RE: Team3S:
Split Second MAF kit
Just to put this price in perspective, it isn't that
far off of the
ill-fated MASC.  It retailed for around that price with
an 83mm aitmeter and
similar functionality.  The MASC gave the operator
a few more convenience
features (EGT, IDC, O2 voltage) but this Split Second
kit does look like it
will be at least as good as the MASC.  It
should/might? be better than a
VPC.
It would be interesting for a VPC
experienced person to work with the Split
Second kit to get a more objective
perspective.  The one thing I am a little
skeptical about the Split
Second approach is that it appears to use a
similar tuning approach as the
VPC.  You set the gain or ramp of the fuel
curve but not individual
points along the way which can be used for
interpolation (like what the MASC
and stock fuel system does).
I bet a combination of AFC and Split Second
kit would work very well.  Many
will be watching for the results of this
one I am sure.

Barry

Nope...Sonar vs Radar.
Depth finders are
based on SONAR, while RADAR is RADAR.
Completely different wavebands,

Team3S: Update on CD Changer after some more research...
I talked to some
people at the local mitsubishi dealership, and they felt
that I should be
able to control an aftermarket cd changer, but suggested
that I ask at
someplace like Circuit City.  So I ended up at circuit city
and asked if
my deck could control it.
The bottom line: the decks with the graphic eq
(the one with the presets
for jazz, etc) CANNOT control ANY aftermarket cd
changers.  I talked to
two seperate salespeople and they both said the
same thing indepentandtly,
so I don't think they were trying to get my to buy
a whole new system or
anything.
What this now leads to is this: I
asked about putting in an aftermarket EQ
and CD deck.  They had all
these crappy decks that looked real pretty with
blinking bars and whatnot,
but not a per-band EQ.  When I finally got them
to understand that I
wanted to be able to adjust things the way I like
them, rather than presets,
they showed me their only eq, a pioneer.  I
asked them if I could use
the amp that's in the car (which from other
discussions, I assume is seperate
from my deck and under the passenger
seat), they told me no.  When I
asked why, they said that it had a special
connection to the deck.  I
responded with "So it's digital to the amp?"
and the salesperson said that it
"uses some kind of logic."  Now, I don't
know what the hell he was
trying to get away with there, but I have a hard
time buying that.
Another salesman told me that it "uses a low input"
which I could accept and
would understand how that couldn't use an amped
signal from a deck/amp
combo...
So basically what this comes down to is: can't control
aftermarket cd
changers with a stock Mitsu deck w/ the graphical jazz,
circuit city
doesn't hire people who really know what they're doing, or
doesn't give
them all the same bull to get people to buy things that cost
more.
I think i'll head to a local car audio shop sometime soon and see
if I can
get an aftermarket cd and eq that'll put out an un-amped signal so I
can
use the stock amp...
anyone with more experience with this, feel
free to mail me off the
list if I should be going about this
differently.

Andrew,
as a former 12-vold sales associate at Circuit
City, I can confirm what
the sales people told you.  The point they were
trying to get across is
that very very few OEM amplifiers can be used after
you upgrade the stereo
to an fter-market unit.  Most of the time the
problem resides in
cabline/connections which have no adapters and the rest of
the time there
is indeed "logic" between the stereo and the amp in which they
act like 2
computers tied together whith specific language to operate
eachother.
Physically they are 2 seperate units, but technically they usually
are
not.  It's also been my observation that the addition of any kind
of
seperate EQ (except if we're talking adjustable crossovers, etc)
will
decrease sound quality themselves.  I've seen many competition
cars
without EQs.
IMHO!

My appologies if this is slighty off topic,

it may be of interest to those that enter competitions.

had his complete interior replaced (for a reported
