Dennis,
The majority of japanese brake lines use a 10mm X 1.0 thread, so that
should'nt be a problem. The calipers themselves are a different size
physically, and the spindles are different between the AWD and FWD so you
will most likely have to fabricate adaptor brackets. The vent
plates/protectors will also need some custom brackets if you want to use
them. I THINK the lug bolt pattern is the same so the rotors should slide
right on. Thats about all i know......

I have all three of the 1992-1996 3000GT manuals for sale.     The
electrical, general, and overhaul procedures books.  I bought these this past
winter for $100 a piece.  I paid $300 for them.  I know I got ripped, but at
any rate...I am willing to sell them all for $125 shipped.  E-mail me if you
are interested.

I don't know all the answers to your question, but I do know that the newer
(94 up) calipers require the larger 17 in. wheel to clear the calipers.

I suspect that the cost of a new set of VR4 front calipers is probably
comparable to that of Brad's Porsche Big Red setup (about $900). You might
just want to jump right to that, instead.
Go to:
http://home.austin.rr.com/overboost/vr4pics.htm
for a look-see. Click on the first "brake" icon to see a pic of Big Red.
Then, check with Brad about price and availability for your car.

This is true.  However, assuming that the offset issue is set aside, can
it be done?
If I had a set of VR-4 wheels, then the wheel issue should be cleared.
Correct?

Thanks, but I will pass on the "Big Red".  Wayne had posted a while ago
that rebuilt VR-4 calipers (w/ a lifetime guarantee) are available through
Autozone for a mere $55 a piece + core return charge.

Thank you.  What are spindles?    I have changed out the brakes (+
calipers) on my car before, but am unfamiliar with "spindles".

Will adaptor brackets affect driveability/safety?

I am not entirely certain what is meant by vent plates.  Can someone
elaborate?
The only things I can think of are the shims that are inserted behind the
brake pads.  They are vented... ?

I think the bolt pattern is identical, too.  Hopefully that is not an
issue.

Just saw this on TV yesterday. For 6 hole wheels measure outside to
inside (or vice versa as it equals center-center) of opposite stud
holes. For 5 hole, measure outside to outside skipping one hole. This
gives you stud spacing.

the tranny they ordered for me.  While complaining that they needed to get
it out of inventory, the slipped and told me it was eating $2500 worth of
the parts they're allowed to keep in shop.  Since it's was a warranty repair
I'm assuming that's the dealer cost of a new tranny.

This is true, but as a follow-up, i posted some other stuff regarding the
Amateur zone calipers.

1. They sent me the wrong side 3 times.
2. One of those wrong sides was off a Stealth, so it didn't say
"Mitsubishi" on it.
3. When i finally got the right side, it was a newer version, so it wouldnt
fit behind my 17" wheel.
4. After all this, i found out they were only $125 at the dealer. (rebuilt)

So, there you have it.........

Subject: Team3S: Minor Getrag problem

Hi

While driving to work this morning I smelled burned oil but I didn't see any oil leak so I parked the car at a clean spot in the garage. After work I found a small red puddle of redline oil... OH No another Getrag problem!!! Crawled under the car (they sure are low :) and noticed that the oil was coming from the transfer case.

Took the car  to a lift to check it out. I found out that the oil have been pressed out through the oil level check hole in the transfer case. There is some problem with the bolt because it's not possible to torque it but it doesn't seams to be totally destroyed because I can screw it in and out but when I try to torque it it just spins.

Any suggestions ?? Is it supposed to be this way? (guess not)

Ha ha I probably have to buy a new transfer case because of a faulty screw :)

The worst thing is that I was supposed to attend my first real drag race tomorrow but I guess I can forget that now :(

Sounds to me like the threads are stripped inside the transfer case.
You can get a rubber compression stopper to replace it with.

If you go to the dealer, be looking in the $4-5k range for a rebuild.  A friend of mine just had his done by the dealer - seems to have spun a bearing - and the damage came out to right at $5k.  they replaced the block, etc, but reused all the exterior parts like the turbo's, intake, etc.

Give the 3si dealer sponsors a call for a more objective price - then you have something to work with locally.

Also might want to look at local H.P. shops / Eng. Repair places - they can probably do you better than the dealer can.

To let everyone know the current status, the contract has been reviewed by a

and subsequently the contract, are invalid, due to the "oversight" on the
dealers part to sign the contract. Therefore the Neon, and all associated
papers, excepting the sale documents were returned to the dealer yesterday.

HOWEVER, the Dealer is now holding both the Neon, and my VR-4, and refusing
to return the Mitsubishi, in what appears to the casual observer the hopes
that they in some way, shape, or form, shove this deal down my throat.(what
will prove to be a big mistake) I'm now effectively out an automobile, cash,

Roger, send them a certified letter with the current mileage on your VR-4 and
tell them they are now renting your car until it's returned. Further, that by
driving it they will have to repair any damage they do and that they are not
authorized to drive it. They may get mean and try to destroy it before you
get it back. Document the miles and demand they stop driving it. Take a
witness and look at the odometer today.
You're a lucky guy to be in an informed position to consider getting it back.
A deal is a deal on paper or by hand shake. The dealer did nothing wrong
(imho) so emailing complaints is not fair. Good luck. A Neon???

>>A deal is a deal on paper or by hand shake. The dealer did nothing wrong

Agreed, only to a point. I originally offered to return the car to the
dealer, and pay mileage, and any "reasonable" charge to undo the deal.  I
would have happily written the check, and considered it a mistake. It was
when I was patronized by the dealer offering $2k less than wholesale book on
the Neon, and marking the Mitsu up $1500 making it $8500 to get the car back
that it becomes unreasonable. The title work was not done (it was a holiday)
and it would have been nothing more than a test drive that they were paid
for. The car would have been able to still be sold as new, and this whole
issue wouldn't exist.

Instead the greed factor appears to have kicked in, and when greed overcomes
business sense, and people get screwed, that it's an issue.

The dealer is now holding a 99 Neon, $2500 in cash, and an immaculate 94
VR-4. You telling me that he's now not doing anything wrong? If you say yes,
I'll have to respectfully disagree.

Roger

Roger, if you have a WIFE, now's the time to let her do the dirty work.

Let her call the dealership, tell 'em you (that *$%&^#$@) sold what was HER
car to avoid (alimony/divorce settlement/maintenance) whatever... The
dealership does NOT want to get in the middle of a nasty "domestic dispute"
at any costs...doesn't matter if you are married, just get a suitable female
to go along with it and play "vengeful." Let her mention something about
"that worthless piece of paper" you gave them for a title, and mention the
lengths you went to after it was TOTALLED to get a "clean" Virginia title
(there's a story here, but I won't go into it) and watch how quick they
decide to give it back...

Or send her to "drop by" the dealership, after "noticing the car on the back
lot," and see what kind of story they give her regarding its availability...

And next time, lay off the jungle juice before cruising down Rt. 7.

The threads are stripped (either the bolt or the threads on the case).
You should be able to re-thread it with a tap and die (or have it done)
and replace the bolt with a new one (may need to be slightly over
sized). YOU NEED TO FLUSH THE TRANSFER CASE SEVERAL TIMES AFTER YOU DO
THIS TO GET ALL THE METAL SHAVINGS OUT. It shouldn't really cost that
much to do.

Good Luck,

Roger,

I know you're NOT going to like what I'm going to say, but maybe you
should offer them a $500.00 settlement. Car dealerships, like them or
not, have to make money too (I'm not a car dealer, by the way), and it's
quite possible that, particularly in this age of internet commerce, they
had a potential buyer already lined up for the VR4 even before your
purchase of the NEON was complete.

I was considering trading my '93 RT/TT for a 98 'Vette a few months ago,
and when the sales manager and I started talking money, he made a few
calls and made a few internet contacts, and within about 15 minutes had
a buyer for my car lined up in North Carolina (he also got pretty pissed
when I backed out of the deal 3 days later!!)...but he never took
possesion of my car.

In their eyes, $500.00 won't be much, but it's better than nothing!!

Good Luck,

Bill Wagner

Just what happened to the car?? Is the block, indeed, ruined or is there
a possibility of rebuilding it??? Let us know as much detail as possible
and one of us may be able to help you out.

Hey Jake,

I know how u feel.. my crankshaft broke last year and needed a whole
lower block rebuilt.  The dealer wanted $6,000 to rebuild just the
lower block. I ended up going to an aftermarket shop and rebuild the
engine with forged rods and forged pistons, plus upgrade 13G turbos for
about the same price. But be sure u go to a reputable place that had
done work on our cars before. Taking out and part the engine need some
expertise.
You said ur block is damaged.. internal?? or did the block crack??

sounds familiar.  I blew a rod on my 1991 stealth ES.  It is around 9K to get
a new engine.  This is under extended warranty.  I may have to get rid of my
ride. The engine is going to cost more than I paid for the car.  My car was
just getting cherry to.  I was getting ready for the purchases of major
upgrades.  If I do get rid of my ride, due to the warranty people paying my
8K and after the pay-off, I may go with a truck for now.  The only reason for
this is work.  I am going to get another Stealth later but opting for a 94+
R/T TT.  I don't however know where to get the new engine at.  This is
through the dealer. If anyone finds one give my a ring.  Also check
WWW>MSRECYCLING.COM.  If it isn't that then it is WWW.MSRECYCLE.COM.

Subject: Re: Team3S: Questions about Injectors

RC usually takes Bosch injectors (my 720cc are) or Densos, depending on the
application. Ask RC or check out their homepage for more information. Also if
buying some have them cleaned and matched if they are not new from RC.

The S-AFC works with +/-15% but the new S-AFC (same name) one has +/-30% range
and more rpm steps beside other features. A VPC becomes necessary with larger
injectors and also when you want to eliminated the MAS. The VPC does convert
your car into speed-density and not only tweaks the air flow signal !

Of course milage can be degraded when you start to dump fuel in. More boost
needs more and GOOD fuel. You can cool the combustion chamber with fuel and
therefore run more boost as this will prevent heavy knock but you're wasting the
energy in the fuel. With 550, an AFC and bigger fuel pump (yes!) you should be
able to run 1.1 - 1.2 bars. But definitely use an EGT meter as well as an A/F
meter to be safe ;-)

Dan,

Don't know who your warranty co. is going thru, but somebody's either lying or gouging (maybe both), if they're telling you $9k.  Like I mentioned in my previous post, a buddy of mine got the FULL shortblock & labor to rebuild with the rest of the parts for under $5k.  Call Conicelli or Tallahasse Mitsu for a price - I think you'll see the motor is not that expensive (UNLESS YOU'RE REALLY WANTING TO DITCH THE CAR).
