Subject: Team3S: TeamS: "Jack Knife" transmission

Admin note : Why is the same whole post distributed again ??? Please always use
the <snip> feature, thnaks.

- --------

Well, nobody seems to know this Mr. Knife... or do you know him ;-)

A "Jack Knife" transmission usually means something like a "special" tranny i.e.
the stock tranny was made somewhat stronger with trick parts. It is also a
synonym for a trick tool or a tool that is really strong like a special drill
machine. On the Camaro list there are people who installed a "Jack Knife"
differential. This is a much heavier one like a Dana or Ford 12 bolt but is not
made from Mr. Knife :) It is heavier, stronger ... just better.

Nobody knows what's better on the tranny mentioned from John Kohn's car. And
we'll probably will never know until it brakes or has to be torn apart. And we
all hope that this will not be case !

If there is somebody who "really" knows Mr. Knife ... please let us know :-)

All the best,
Roger

Subject: Team3S: Microfiche parts pages

I tried to scan a section of the BMW manuals (on microfiche only afaik), and
I don't have the resolution required to be able to scan it. It turns out
pretty blurry (99% useless) and I have a decent HP scanner (USB). I had to
send them back. My wife works at the bank, and has access to a fiche
reader/printer, and it can print each page on PAPER. THEN you can scan it in
with any scanner. If it's not too large, I am willing to upload it to the
3/S Backup CD www site as a FREE download. I don't want to scan over 1000
pages tho! :)

Subject: Re: Team3S: Dual battery question

thanks for the input jason, but the sub amp that i'm running is only
rated for a maximum current draw of 100amps. and will peak to 1460 watts
with a 14.6 volt input. and mitsubishi had told me that the alternators
were 110amp units. the battery that i'm running now is 925 cca, with 875
amp reserve capicity. i'm having no trouble with lights diming, or
accessories. theres no doubt that i'm putting some stress on the
charging system, but it's just like they used to tell me in college. 'if
it works, it works." ( that was 11 years ago when i was getting my
degree in electronics, then i ran an installation
shop for 7 years, and worked for rockford 2 years before that).it all
depends on what type equipment your running too, my total wattage at
100% flex is pushing 1800watts, but i've never ran it that high. but
it's really efficient equipment.besides ,the only thing thats pulling
amperage from the alternator is the head unit, every thing else is wired
straight to the main battery, so its pulling energy from both sources at
the same time.                   thanks, for the help anyway, not just
everone would take the time out to explain problems in detail to help
someone out.                     thanks again,

Subject: Team3S: funny noise

A couple weeks back, I told you guys I lowered the air pressure in the tires
from the tires max to the cars specs.  I got a funny noise starting from the
front wheels, and I blew it off because I just thought that is was just the
tire wearing on new tread.  Well, today on the way home from finishing up at
my temp job, I noticed the noise had turned from a dull roar and 'whish'
sound to more of a squeel.  I asked my dad, and he said maybe the wheel
bearings are the cause of it.  Any ideas???

I just went through the same thing with my rear wheel bearings.  It was a
dull roar and would get worse when cornering.  Also I could hear the pads
squeeking as the rotor shifted.  Jack the front end up and see if the wheel
has any play in it.  If there is, then it's the bearings.  Bearings will
cost you about $40 and make sure to check the shaft to see if it's damaged
like mine was.  Full hub assembly should run you about $100.

Hope it helps,

Kevin Schappell
