I am going to assume you mean compressor and not condenser.
If memory serves me correctly, you should be able to remove the AC
compressor, use  a smaller belt and still use the tensioner.  Some creative
routing of the belt may happen, but this is unlikely.

A friend and I are looking into yanking out the A.C. system in order to
shave a few unwanted pounds.  I havn't started yet but through working on
his we have hit a snag.  We have removed everything except for the
condensor.  It seems that it has to stay in there as it has a pulley on
it that turns an accessory belt.  Does anybody know of a way to bypass
this pulley without hurting anything? Maybe shorter belt(s) a dummy
pulley that will fill in when the condensor is gone?  Any ideas would be
great.

Hey everyone, I am wanting to delete my Active Aero wing.

What I need:

Someone with a pearl white car (1991/92 color)  With a base Stealth or 3000.
(with no wing)
I may consider using a Stealth with the Taco wing hatch, I just would need
to see how difficult it is to remove the wing.

I want to swap the whole rear hatch for a hatch that does not have a wing.
Any takers?

I agree that a shorter belt should work.  But if you haven't already
disconnected the hoses, please go to a shop and have them reclaim the
refrigerant.

We really need to keep this in mind when we or those we know work on AC
systems.

I would be cautious of doing this for long periods of time.  I did this
successfully at the track with one of my previous cars without a problem.
After a while I got lazy and decided to leave the shorter belt on all the
time.  I had a bearing go on the next assessory in line after the air
compressor within 800kms.  It may have been coincidence, but it could have
been due to increased side loading on the bearing due to the sharper angles
the shorter belt made.  I had another friend with the same car that
experienced this as well.  Note:  This car had an auto belt tensioner, so
the belt tension with the shorter belt was not increased.

He then told me the stock H.P. of his car 405, claimed it to be a 30K =

He also claimed to have run low 12's with it, at a local track, with =

He said the window sticker was over 70K.

I think it's time for some mods.

By the way, I'm at ~59K right now, the water pump, timing belt, and all =

Subject: Team3S:Getrag rebuild sucess

Hello everyone,
I just had my getrag trans rebuilt by Buschur Racing and it was sucessful. I was having problems with 2nd and 4th gears. 2nd gear was only a problem if I shifted quickly, but it prevented me from racing. 4th I had to baby and usually bypassed it and went directly to 5th.
First off let me say that the trans is rebuildable, it comes apart easily, once you know the trick. At the back of the trans is a black plug, remove this and inside is an allen screw. Removing the allen screw and this allows you to remove the back cover which give you access to the gear assemblies. Dan Buschur, who performed the rebuild, showed me how the synchro's operated and what I needed. I had purchased the synchro's from Jack T. earlier but also needed a 2nd gear and a couple of bearings. Thanks to Frank at Kormax for getting the bearings and a 2nd gear. He had new bearings, but only used gears. I wasn't happy about using a used gear, but I couldn't seem to locate a new one. I sent an e-mail to this Max at NYMaxxNY but never got a response back. Also tried to locate a Trico which supposely had parts and rebuilt getrags out of Brooklyn but was unsucessful. The gear Kormax sent was better than mine, but it was worn. As Dan showed me, the way the synchro's engage if your 1s!
t or 2nd becomes worn, chances are you'll need a gear also. However, on 3rd and 4th the gear teeth don't wear, due to how those engage. Dan had rebuilt lots of dsm trans. and said the trans was well built but a pain. The pain comes from the springloaded ball bearings within the synchros, trying to put them in after they pop out while assembling. That aside, I was there as Dan assembled the trans and it didn't seem to be that difficult, Dan might have a different view however. I had a new centerforce installed while the trans was out and also upgraded my fuel system and exhaust. I'm now ready for turbos, which will be next after I put in my boost controller. Dan put the trans back in and Success!!! The car shifts great, no more grinding in 2nd or 4th at any speed. Time to hit the track and see what she's running, hopefully at least high 12's with the stock turbo's on race fuel.
Oh yeah, cost for the rebuild including the bearings, 2nd gear, and 1,2,3,4 synchros came to under 1k but your price might vary, Dan wasn't too interested in doing another, the biggest pain he says is getting the trans out, it took about 4 hrs to remove it, whereas he can do a clutch change in a awd dsm in 1 1/2 hrs. start to finish.
One final thing, Dan can get brand-new trans for around 2k I think it was $2200. This is factory new not a rebuilt, something to keep in mind.
Buschur Racing, located in Wakeman,OH about 40min. outside Cleveland
440-839-1900 Dan said he would be more interested in working on non-turbo's.
Hope this helps

Bill...

Don't feel too bad, half the thrill is the race itself. I don't know about
the engine you referred to, but keep in mind that some people don't tell the
"whole" story about their mods.

When you get ready for those mods, check out Chien's page at
"nexusmotorsports". He outlines a clear staged mods path. Also keep in mind
the learning from Roger and friends in Europe who just did dyno work on
three TTs. It appears it may be worth doing the injectors and fuel pump
before anything else!!!
Looking forward...Chris

I don't know what the Lotus option should be but stock SAE hp is around the 400
horses. The Borla does give the car more punch in the upper region.

> Does anyone know, should I have been able to run with him?

With your stock setup and K&N you're 1/4 would be low 14 to high 13 and his is
in the 12's. So you had no chance.

The usual 60k service should contain the plugs. Replace them now and gap them
around 0.034 for your future boost of around 14.2 psi. Then install a good boost
controller of your choice to go to this level.

With this mod you'll have a good chance to go into the lower 13's region but you
have to get familiar with the new behaivour the car first :)

Good luck,

Subject: Team3S: Need new brake rotors & pads

Well it is time for new front rotors & pads for my '91 VR4.  I want to
upgrade without going into the $1000+ realm.  I do plan on attending
road course track events two or three times a year.  I may use a street
pad most of the time and use a race pad at the track, or just use a race
pad all the time.  All advice & recomendations welcome.

This is what I've read in the past:

Porterfield:  Great pads & rotors.  Pads seem to last the longest for
track usage.  Has anyone used their cross-drilled or cryogenically
treated rotors?  Right now I'm leaning toward these with their street or
maybe race pad.

Powerslots:  Rich busted one of these rotors at the track which makes me
apprehensive.  Other than that, they have been recommended others.

Stillen:  I just went through a set of Metal Matrix pads in half a day
at the track, (hence the reason for this post).  I've also heard that
the rotors aren't the best.

Bremsa:  Roger & Mikael are using these with pagid pads.  Roger has
hinted that he still gets a little pulsation from warping.  Probably out
of my price range anyway.

Brembo:  Out of my price range

Porsche GT2:  I want these, but out of my price range (maybe when I get
a '94+ :)).

Thanks in advance,
Ken

I suggest you upgrade to 94+ rotors and calipers, at least on the front.
The rotor is a little bigger.
I'm not sure what all is involved -- maybe it's a real simple bolt on.
I can't give you an update on my new Powerslots and Performance Friction

My experience with Poterfield products is very satisfactory.  When I
use to have stock calipers I bought a set of R4 (race) and R4s
(street) from them. But I notice their pads has noticeablly smaller
surface area than stock ones (i have a '92 RT TT). Other from that,
the pads worked great on the street and on the track.  After I upgrade
to Brembos I still use Porterfield pads, its the pad for F-40!
As for the rotors, my Stillen/Brembo rotors cracked after 3 weekends
at a road course.  I went to Porterfield and got a stock '94 (bigger
than my '92 stock and also bigger then the Brembo/Stillen and alot
cheaper too!) They pre-treated and cross-drilled it.  The
cross-drilling looked magnificent!! better than the Stillen/Brembo
cross-drills... one other thing.. they claim their R4 (race pads) are
streetable, no need to heat up, and rotor-friendly... plus long wear!!
but I just use the R4s (street) for regular driving.. oh yea, they
also throw in some Motul racing brake fluids for free everytime I'm
there! =)

By "Lotus option" he probably meant the ZR1 motor, which was
designed by Lotus for GM and manufactured by Mercury Marine.

The odds would be better right after a nice rain.  ;-)

Yep he was right.  The ZRI has a Lotus designed 4 cam, 32 valve V8.  A
couple of years ago I took my VR4 to Laguna Seca for a hot lapping day.  A
ZR1 with slicks was the only car able to blow by me.  Don't feel too bad :(

<< File: ATT00000.html >> That's right folks, smoked, not once, not twice,
but three times.

Here's how it went. I was at the gas station, just got done filling up,
when up pulls
a nice looking red ZR1. I looked at him, he looked at me, I went on about
my business.
Next thing I know there a voice from behind introducing himself to me.

At any rate he's pretty cool, asked if I wanted to race, without hesitation
I said sure.
I asked where, he said,(St. Louis guys) Manchester Rd. out by wild horse
creek rd.
He then said he wanted to go from a punch, so he knew what I had on him.

On the way out there we open road, he nodded me on, I jumped on it, pulled
about a
car length, I could hear his tires squealing, and he blew by me. We did
this two more
times, and then he pulled over, came back to my car, I asked him what mods
he had,
he said only a exhaust system, similar the Borla cat back for my car.

He then told me the stock H.P. of his car 405, claimed it to be a 30K Lotus
option engine
available for the Vette.
He also claimed to have run low 12's with it, at a local track, with
different tires on it.
He said the window sticker was over 70K.

Still a nice guy, claimed he's never been beat by a VR-4.

Does anyone know, should I have been able to run with him?
Ever heard of this engine option?
I think it's time for some mods.

By the way, I'm at ~59K right now, the water pump, timing belt, and all of
that stuff
has already been replaced, but my plugs have nearly 60K on them.
My only mod is a K&N  FIPK.

Feelin pretty low Bill Davis 95 VR-4

Subject: Team3S: What class would 3/S cars run in?

I am curious what class would the 3/S cars run in at a sanctioned race?
The answer to this may also be the answer to my more basic question: why
don't we see more 3/S cars running in sports car races like the 24hrs of
Daytona or Sebring or other well known sports car races??  I see other
DSM cars in them and all of the cars mentioned here as competition for
our cars, but why no 3KGTs or Stealths??

Lynn

The Powerslots and Stillen seem to be about the same quality. The only thing
that I can say is that with slotted rotors you are getting about 20% more wear
on the pads (of course, depends on how you stop).

Yeah, they are out of the price range as shipping would be too high. The Pagids
are ok and after they remachined the rotors the warped feeling is gone, almost.
This because the Pagid pads do work good when temperature raises over 0°C. Of
course breaking one time and this is it but when driving on the highway on temps
below 0°C they cool down and when then braking slowly they give the warped
feeling until they are heated up after 2 or 3 seconds.

You do need larger calipers for them :/

Hehe, it depends what and... I'm still alive :-)

Hope to see more members soon.
