It's not that nobody is listing, it's just that some are not
so adamantly
opossed to using it as a tuning aid. Consider that at
normal opp. temp. I
can monitor the smallest adjustment on my Apex AFC by
watching my O2 V
output, with great consistancy. As an A/F monitor it
may be questionable,
but as a reference monitor on your own car it's
valuable. Not to mention
that for the price of a bannana plug connector
and a VOM, it's the cheapest
gage on the market. In conjunction with my
EGT, I found the O2 V
output
usefull.

Understood, I use O2 voltages as a tuning aide
also. "Tuning aide" is the
key. Many people speak of nothing BUT
O2 voltages when they talk about
tuning. Given a choice of tools, O2
voltages from stock sensor is down the
priority list. I concede that
properly used in conjunction with other
indicators and with a known engine
they can be useful. A true UEGO or
exhaust gas analyzer is another
matter.
Oxygen sensors are not always telling you what some people would
want you to
believe and, by themselves, are not reliable enough to adequately
serve as
an indication of mixture. They COULD be useful if they were
linear,
calibrated frequently or self-calibrating, and calibrated for the
particular
application in which the sensor operates. So many things can
affect O2
sensor outputs which have nothing to do with oxygen content.
Ground paths
is the first thing that comes to mind. ECU biasing is
another. Operating
temperature is also a
factor.

Subject: RE:
Team3S: tire sizes
It seems that in the 275/40R17 size on the stock rims,
some tires rub and
some don't. It will have to do with the exact shape
of the tire, and
possibly the year of the vehicle...
If people don't
mind yet another survey, I'd like to hear from anyone who
has tried 275/40R17
tires on STOCK rims on a VR-4 or Stealth TT (who knows,
there may only be two
or three of you out there...)
Requested info:
0. PREREQUISITE:
275/40R17 tires on OEM-spec 46mm offset 17x8.5" wheels
1. Year, make, and
model of car
2. Brand and model of tire
3. Rubbing, if any, and severity,
as well as mods done to combat the rubbing
My impression was that Bob
Fontana had to remove the splash shields inside
the wheel wells to get his
GS-Cs to clear on his '93 VR-4. Kash ran GS-C's
on his '94 TT and had
moderately bad rubbing (i.e. barely tolerable). Which
leads me to believe
there may have been a bit more clearance on the 1st
gens.
Interesting
side note:
While 91 - 94 VR-4's all came with 17x8.5" 46mm offset wheels, the
wheels
off the 91-93 cars will NOT fit over the larger '94 calipers due to
a
smaller interior diameter.

Please let
me know what you find out about the heat shield. I believe
mine is the
cause of an annoying resonance during downshifting at at
certain engine RPMs
(I have had this problem on almost every car I've
ever owned!). I'd
like to know if there is a way to repair it (Roger
suggested some of that
liquid metal epoxy stuff, which I will try) or if
there are any drawbacks to
just removing it altogether. If I can get
rid of this resonance and the
engine HOOT resonance, my Stealth will
once again live up to its name!

Team3S: Broward Clutch
My car is in the process of getting some trans
work done. There are 2
unrelated problems. First, it has a gear
oil leak that is causing gear oil
to be slung all over the inside of the bell
housing eventually causing
clutch slippage. This was confirmed
yesterday when we got the transaxle off
yesterday. It is a really bad
leak. The guy who is doing the actual work
on the transaxle wasn't
there yesterday, so no source for the leak was
determined yet. The
second problem is the 2nd gear synchro. I originally
had a problem
downshifting into 1st gear. Now I have a problem getting into
2nd gear
from any gear. I'm hoping that these other synchros will solve all
of
my tranny woes and I'll be down the road in the next couple days.
Just
wanted to mention how nice it is to deal with Broward Clutch. As
soon
as the gearbox came off the car, I took the clutch disc, pressure plate
and
flywheel to them. They cleaned all 3 up with parts cleaner, rinsed
them
with water and resurfaced my disc with all brand new pucks. The
whole thing
took 35 minutes.

K-alcohol. It's a fuel additive you use to get rid of ice/water in your

RE: Team3S: Pre-cat Gutting
I wouldn't recommend gutting the pre-cats
unless you remove the main one.
Otherwise, when your motor is cold, it will
run so rich that the fuel-laden
exhaust gas will eat up the catalyst in the
main cat and ruin it. Then you
won't pass emissions.
Leaning the
ratio out might lower the HC but not the CO emissions.
To get around the
problem (for off-road use only!!!), use a test pipe. Then
on that big
day when the state in which you live in needs to stick their
nose in your
tailpipe, start the car up and idle it until it gets to
operating
temperature. Shut it off. Wait 1/2 hour. Remove the test
pipe
and replace it with your main cat. Run the car hard to the test
station.
Pass the test and get the hell out of there.

Check out Ground Control Suspension at http://www.ground-control.com.
They
offer a height adjustable coil-over spring kit for the VR4 priced

RE: Team3S: Broward Clutch
Well there not for lots of city driving for
one. The hold very well but do
take there toll on the pressure
plate. Mine has been in for about 7K and
while doing other work (rear
main seal) they buffed out my plate (which
showed a good deal of
wear). I think it's a toss up.. hold really good and
replace/
resurface the pressure plate and flywheel every 15-20k or but
another clutch
that's more suited for street/city driving. The turn around
with this
company is great and the sales people really know there stuff
(this is there
bread and butter) and best of all the replacement clutch
disks are
reasonable. Bob or anyone else... How about making a slightly
harder
compound or steel for the pressure plate. I assume on reason for it
not being real hard is it would help grab. Is this a poss for RPS to
make
a slightly harder pressure plate?

RE: Team3S: Broward Clutch
Hi Bob
As you maybe know I also have a
disk with cinter pucks, the thing I worry
about with this clutch is the
flywheel and the pressure plate, will they be
worn out/grinded down due to
the extreme hard pucks??
How did yours look? Any damage?
(If you
guys want more info about my custom clutch look at
