1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 Twin Turbo, Jamaican Blue
Metallic, purchased March, 2003.
Stock Features when purchased: Includes AWD & AWS (all-wheel drive & all-wheel steering), electronically-controlled
suspension, active aerodynamics. The previous owner brought the car back to original
spec, starting with a new motor... The block was hottanked, cleaned and honed and
decked, the heads work-surfaced, all surfaces machined and professionally
rebuilt with new valves, new upgraded ACL bearings, rings and all new gaskets.
All new belts, tensioner, water pump, new plugs, wires, O2
sensors, fuel filter, resurfaced (two-step) stock flywheel. The 5-speed transmission was rebuilt
with all new Kormex synchros and bearings, then pulled apart a month later and
an upgraded 18-spline Kormex output shaft was put in.
Power Modifications: The new replacement stock turbos he had installed
blew out on the first track day, and were replaced with 13C's, clipped 5 degrees. To
support the bigger turbos, there's an high-capacity 255lph Supra Fuel Pump (wired at full
voltage). I added RC 550cc injectors, A'pexi S-AFC-II Air/Fuel computer,
Split Second ARM-1 fuel meter, Greddy Type-S Blow-Off Valve, TurboXS Dual
stage Boost Controller, Greddy 60mm peak hold Boost and Oil Pressure Gauges in Greddy dual
pillar pod... K&N FIPK, RD Performance chrome Y-pipe... Exhaust mods include a Borla 3"
cat-back exhaust, ATR 3" downpipe, and RD Performance 3" high-flow cat. To get the power to the wheels, new carrier bearings were installed on the propeller shaft, the tranny was rebuilt for extra track strength by TRE (TeamRip.com), who also installed a stronger VCU. Power gets to the drive train via an RPS MAX Series 6-puck sprung-hub racing clutch.
Brakes, Suspension, Wheels/Tires...: StopTech "big brake" upgrade
(355mmx32mm [14"] custom rotors, StopTech [Ferrari F-40] Black Calipers), CarboTech PantherXP (Front) & Porterfield R4-S (Rear) racing
brake pads, StopTech Stainless Steel brake lines and Motul 600 racing fluid. 3SX Performance polyurethane
motor mounts, JIC FLT-A2 "Magic" racing suspension (lowered 1.5"F/2"R, set to full soft with no preload), coupled with Supercar Engineering Tender Springs, 3SX Performance Rear control Arms, TEC front strut tower bar, Saner rear sway bar. Track tires are Gewalt 18x10 wheels w/ Toyo Proxes RA-1's 275/35ZR18, with 5mm spacers in front for a wider track. Street tires are 18x9 SSR GT-1 wheels with Bridgestone S-03 Pole Position Potenza 245/40ZR18. (Wheels shown in the photo above are the Gewalt 18x10's, with 265/35ZR18 Nitto Extreme Performance 450s).
