Haha! I love it...

3S owner: My cars got a getrag tranny in it, and it grinds. Most of the
other
people that own the same car have similar problems sooner or later.
what can be done about it?

Getrag: <with an evil twinkle in his/her eye> Here, have a sucker kid...
cause
    that's what you are :P.

So, is "SATAN" equal to the DEALERSHIP or Getrag in 3/S land? It's the
dealership
for DSM people, since they usually cause the most heartache. I truly think
that
people that work at dealerships aren't smart enough (for the most part,
there are
exceptions) to work on turbo/awd/dohicky cars like ours. This IS the main
reason
why the y2k eclipse came out the way it has. If they offered an AWD/Turbo
version
of it, they could only afford to offer a 3 minute warranty. (which would
expire after the
first test drive :)

Well guys, the Stealth is the only surviving car I own right now. The Talon
died yesterday
at exactly 100,666 miles. Scarey huh? Seems like the oil pump broke or the
sproket
loosened up. Chewed up the timing belt somewhat (the valves didn't hit or
anything).
Wife drove the car like this for 5-10 miles, and I assume lack of sufficient
oil pressure
blew out the turbo, and cam seals/bearings. It leaks like a sieve!

With the stealth burning oil in the exhaust under decel (and top of WOT
shifts),
I have my work cut out for me. I'm so glad you all exist!

Hmm. I currently have a problem with my VR4 where the rear wing doesn't always
go up, but the front airdam always goes down and up properly, and I don't get
the aero warning light. I've traced it back to intermittent switches in the
rear wing mechanism. I don't know if this is a common problem, but the switches
would be the first thing I'd check if I had a problem with the front air dam.

For what it's worth, here are the part numbers off the two rear switches:

SS-01L2W55-2-107
SS-01L2W55-2-108

They're made by Omron, but the part number doesn't exactly match their most
common switches. I don't think Mitsu would sell just the switches, so I'm
looking around for a vendor who has these parts (or close replacements).

Subject: Team3S: Need best location to tap into for the Install of  EGT gauge.

Hi all,

Where is the best location to tap into for a GReddy EGT gauge?    I would
like to know what location to tap into for the best/accurate/precise
readings: the downpipe? where in particular (or does it matter?)  I mean
right after the rear or front turbo/after pre-cats??  Or somewhere on the
primary pipe side which is closer to the main cat area?  The manifold?  any
advice would be greatly  appreciated.

Thank you!

For accurate readings, you should place the probe infront the turbo in the
exhaust manifold. After the turbo or even more after the precats will give
you lower readings and will not be accurate.

You can drill into the front turbo without removing it. It would be better
to do this in the rear turbo as it usually runs hotter. but you know, space
is very limited. Therefore, remove the front precat and attach the hose of a
carpet cleaner to the O2 sensor housing. With this, the metal parts fallign
of during drillign my be sucked in to the vacuum cleaner and do not klogg up
the precat or the turbine. Anything little that stays in the turbine wheel
will be blown out later but with the vacuum, you should be fine. Place the
probe where all pipes are comming together but also choose a place where the
inner diameter is the biggest as the probe is not that small. But I guess it
will not cause any restriction due to the flow effect.

Good luck and let us know the readings :)

IMHO, the best place for the EGT tap would be before the rear turbo in the
exhaust manifold. This spot will only read one bank of cylinders but it will
be the hottest side.
Better if two EGTs are used for extreme safety. You can also use the
collector after the turbos to read both sides but readings will be about 130
degrees F cooler then before the turbos. The degree difference is an
estimate. It may be a bit more. If its critical get 2 EGT's mounted prior to
the turbos.

Subject: Team3S: Gutting precats on CA emissions car?

I'm considering gutting out the pre-cats on my car and was wondering if
anyone with the CA emissions package has done this on their car and whether
or not the Check Engine light came on after you did it.  I understand that
the CA cars have more emissions crap on them, and don't want to have a
blaring light on my dash and not be able to reverse my handiwork.

Thanks in advance!

Subject: Team3S: Turbo question

Hi all,
I'm another newbie to the list with a question. I couldn't find any info in
the archives. I recently installed tec 15g clipped and ported turbos. I also
installed an atr downpipe with hi flo cat and an EVCIV controller. Other mods
include 560cc injectors, VPC, toyota supra fuel pump, 1000cfm k&n filter,
aquamist WI (haven't played with it yet),  and 1st gen BOV. I'd like to know
if any info is available as to when these turbos should spool up. My turbos
don't spool up much before 4000rpm in any gear although they will hold at
least 17lbs to the redline. (I haven't tested above that level just yet. ) I
haven't gutted the pre cats and still have stock cat back. Should they spool
up sooner now, or would they be expected to spool up quicker with gutted
precats and new cat back exhaust ? Any other suggestions or things to check
to help them spool sooner ?

TIA,
Paul

Many mods are done at once here. You should first tune in the VPC for good low
end accelleration until everything is perefect. Then also enough power is there
to drive the turbos.

Also, the EVC is known not to peak to the level that is tuned in on bi-turbo
systems.

Is it disabled or not ?

They will definitely hold more than this but I think 15Gs should start right
after 3000. But as far as I know does the clipping not help for this and
therefore they may spool up later.

If you upgrade to larger turbos the pre-cats should go pretty soon, i.e. at the
same time. They are the first and main restriction in the path ! After this, you
may consider a larger diameter cat-back system.

Hope this helps a little,
Roger
